00:00School might be out for summer but there is no rest for the TV watchers.
00:04August is another jam-packed month on the Google box, whether you're flicking on the
00:08terrestrial TV or heading straight to streaming. I'm TV and tech writer Matt Monhickson and I'm
00:14here to help you wade through the pack schedule and identify a few shows that you need to keep
00:20on your radar this month. From streaming favourites to reality TV classics, here are my picks of what
00:26you need to watch in August 2025. First up we've got Chief of War which is coming straight out the
00:32gates August 1st on Apple TV. It stars Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones and Aquaman fame. He co-created
00:41this show actually and I think he even directed some of the episodes which is quite impressive.
00:46It's quite a unique setting for a historical fiction show. It's set in 19th century Hawaii during the
00:53unification of the Hawaiian islands. Jason Momoa plays sort of a rebel figure during that time
01:00and I believe that a large part of the show will be in Hawaiian. Episodes will be released weekly on
01:07Apple TV Plus starting August 1st so every Friday until September 19th and that's one definitely to
01:13have on your radar if you have Apple TV. Chain your gears a bit from historical dramas set in Hawaii.
01:20We've got Celebrity S.A.S. Who Dares Wins is back. It's helping to kick off the month with a real bang.
01:27It's starting on Channel 4 on Sunday the August the 3rd. There'll be 14 new celebrities who are
01:33lining up to take on the S.A.S. Who Dares Wins challenge including Adebayo the Beast Akin Fenwar and
01:41also the Traitors season 2 winner Harry Clark is looking to add another reality show to his win this
01:47time as a celebrity. He was also in the army so maybe he has a bit of an unfair advantage compared
01:55to the other competitors but that is starting on Sunday August the 3rd and episodes will be released on
02:02Sunday nights and Monday nights on Channel 4 and on its catch-up service of the same name formerly
02:10all 4, 4rd, now Channel 4. Also the same day August the 3rd we've got ITV offering up a kind of different
02:18kind of celebrity reality show. Cooking with the Stars is back for its fifth season on the broadcaster.
02:25Tom Allen and Emma Willis are here for another season so they're on hosting duties.
02:34There's going to be eight celebrities going head to head in the kitchen, the likes of Ekansu of Love
02:38Island and Traitors US fame and Celebrity Big Brother fame and also Hugh Dennis of Outnumbered and
02:45Mock the Week and lots of comedy show fans are among the stars who will be participating in the new
02:51season. It's set to begin at 7 30 on Sunday the August the 3rd with episodes continuing throughout the month.
02:58Another one that should be really really on your radar is another ITV favourite that's making a return
03:04in the form of the Fortune Hotel so that's back for its second season. There's 11 new pairs are
03:12competing for the jackpot of £250,000. Episodes start on Wednesday August the 6th at 9pm on ITV. They'll also be
03:21available on ITVX the streaming service and if you're in Scotland it's STV slash STV Blair. Same day
03:29August the 6th, like what a day for TV this is turning out to be. Wednesday Netflix's hit gothic
03:38young adult teen drama based on the Addams Family films is back finally. It's been nearly three years so
03:47you might have seen the pictures of some of the cast have grown up significantly in the time between
03:52season one and season two. So that's back finally. The first batch of episodes are out on Netflix on
04:00August the 6th, Wednesday so that'll be about 8am UK time. There's some big new names like Billy Piper
04:07and Steve Buscemi who was recently in Happy Gilmore 2. I have a list on our websites of the cameos ranked from
04:16Happy Gilmore 2. Steve Buscemi is in there and spoiler alert is pretty high up. The first four episodes
04:22are out August the 6th and then the remaining four episodes will arrive just shy of a month later on
04:28September the 3rd all on Netflix. Rounding out the month is another Netflix release. This is the
04:34highly anticipated film adaptation of the Thursday Murder Club. The novels Richard Osman is about to
04:42arrive on Netflix this month. It's coming right at the end of the month on August the 28th. There'll be a
04:48brief cinematic run but they've sold in selected cinemas on August the 22nd and then it comes to
04:55Netflix widely to everyone on August the 28th. This moorish causey murder series about pensionists that solve
05:05crimes features some really iconic names in the cast. There's Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley and
05:12Debbie Tennant's there and it's directed by Chris Columbus who you may remember as the man who brought
05:17the first two Harry Potter books to the screen which is you know timely considering that's been rebooted but
05:22he's here to help launch a new cinematic British franchise. Whether you're interested I think your parents
05:29or grandparents will be really excited for this one. It's quite a jam-packed month so yeah between
05:34your summer holidays if you're going away they'll be planning to keep you occupied. Bye!
