00:38However, given that autumn is my favourite time of year, I've never really had a wine for it.
00:43However, I'm now thinking that orange wine might be the perfect one.
00:47It actually became a huge viral hit last year, but I have actually never got around trying orange wine before.
00:53Now I don't know what the flavours will give, it might tend to be more of a summer wine.
00:58But with the release of Lidl's version, which was launched towards the end of September, maybe it is going to be an autumn classic.
01:05And I will say, of course, it definitely fits the autumnal aesthetic with the orange tone matching the likes of pumpkins and fallen leaves around this time of year.
01:14And so here it is. This is Lidl's brand new orange wine, launched on September 25th, and it is priced at only £7.99 per bottle.
01:25Now, Lidl have actually sent me this to review, which is very kind of them.
01:29But of course, I will be giving my complete honest opinion on what I think of the wine.
01:34So just taking a little look at the bottle, yes, it definitely has that autumnal aesthetic.
01:39It's called Orange Sunset, to be precise, which I definitely think feeds into that autumnal vibe.
01:45It also says that it is a French wine, and it is a 75cl bottle with an alcohol content of 11.5.
01:54Now, that is a little strong for my liking. I tend to go under 10% if I can.
01:59But I'm going to pour this, take a sip, and let you know what I think.
02:05Okay, so I've poured myself a little glass, and I'm going to go in with the sniff test, first of all,
02:11which I do think is a great thing to do when you're trying wine for the first time.
02:15Now, some of the more educated wine fans will be sniffing to see if it's corked or whatnot,
02:20but I'm just going in to see what kind of notes we're getting from this.
02:24Now, the first thing I'm noticing is how strong it smells, which isn't really a good thing for me.
02:29I prefer more of a sweeter wine, but let's go in with another sniff and see what else we can pick up.
02:36That is actually the only thing I can pick up, strangely enough.
02:39I can't pick up any fruity notes or any woody notes, just a really strong smell of alcohol.
02:47I'm just going to have a quick look at the back of the bottle to see what they describe it as.
02:51Okay, the bottle actually gives nothing away either.
02:54You know, sometimes they'll say it goes well with this type of food because it's this type of wine.
02:59This one doesn't do that.
03:01So if you are trying this wine for the first time, you've really got to base it on your own opinion here.
03:07So let's go in with the taste test.
03:12I'm really into mine's about that.
03:15So it isn't as overpowering as I thought it would be given how strong it smells.
03:21But again, like when I went into it smelling it, I'm not getting any distinct flavour other than wine flavour, if that makes sense.
03:33I'm just going to go in with another sip.
03:34It definitely tastes more autumnal than it does summer, I will say that, but I don't know.
03:40I can't pinpoint what it is that's making me think that.
03:44I think it tastes more like a sort of whiskey inspired wine than the type of sweeter wines that you can get.
03:51So I think if you do like whiskey or rum, then yes, it's definitely leaning more towards that.
03:57So it'd be good if you're a fan of those drinks.
04:00However, I'm not.
04:02So for me, I don't particularly like this wine.
04:05Now, I don't know if this is, I don't like orange wine at all, because this is the first time I've tried it,
04:11or if I just don't like this particular version by Little.
04:14It is a shame, because I think the bottle is very pretty, very presentable if you want to bring along to some sort of gathering,
04:23or if you're having a nice autumn night in with your friends or your partner.
04:27It's a gorgeous looking bottle.
04:28I love the colour of it.
04:31But for me, the flavour just isn't what I want from a wine.
04:36I think it is far too strong.
04:39And like I say, you're not picking up on any additional notes, which is normally what I enjoy in the wine.
04:44And I don't want to taste the strength of the alcohol.
04:47I want to taste the flavours.
04:49And there's so many different notes that you can get from different types of wine.
04:53But I can't understand what orange wine is actually trying to give.
04:57So for me, I would say this, like I say, if you like whisky, rum, strong wines,
05:03you want one that's going to really warm your stomach during these cold months, then brilliant.
05:07£7.99 per bottle.
05:09Gorgeous bottle, gorgeous label detail.
05:11It's the one for you.
05:13But for me personally, I'm very sad to say I'm not a huge fan.
05:16I'd be interested in trying all the orange wines in the future to see if it is orange wine that I'm not a fan of,
05:22like I said before, or Lidl's particular version.
