00:00Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann. Two new COVID variants are now the most dominant strains
00:04in the UK according to the latest data from UKHSA. Cases are currently on the rise with those who
00:11are eligible for the COVID autumn booster asked to come forward and book an appointment.
00:17Known as Stratus and Nimbus, the two variants have been declared as under monitoring by the
00:21World Health Organization. They are both sub-variants of an Omicron variant which
00:26caused a spike in cases back in 2023. Despite the many different COVID strains,
00:33symptoms have remained largely the same. They can include a new continuous cough,
00:38a change in your taste or sense of smell or a high temperature. However, in the case of Stratus
00:45and Nimbus ferent, it has been reported that there is one additional symptom to look out for.
00:50This early symptom can include a raspy or tight chest or what has been described as
00:56a razor blade sore throat. The best way to find out if you have COVID is to take a COVID test.
01:03Tests can be purchased at your local pharmacy, supermarket or online. Those who are eligible
01:09will be able to get tests for free from their local pharmacy. Those who are also eligible for
01:15the COVID autumn booster are being asked to come forward and book their appointment.
