00:04permission to die. 52-year-old Chandra Kanta Jaitwani from Indore wrote to President Draupati
00:08Marmu seeking permission for euthanasia. She continues to teach while being confined to a
00:12wheelchair, spending nearly eight hours a day in severe discomfort. In her plea to the president,
00:17Jaitwani said, I will not commit suicide because I teach my students to live with courage,
00:21but my body no longer supports me. I go through excruciating pain every day.
00:25I am seeking euthanasia so that my body parts can be donated for someone else who might get a new
00:29life. Her condition began in 2020 following an illegit case of medical negligence. A botched
00:33orthopedic treatment, she claimed, left the lower half of her body paralyzed. She also suffers from
00:39osteogenesis imperfecta, a disorder that causes brittle and fragile bones. She resumed work
00:44from a wheelchair and became a symbol of resilience and strength for her students. Jaitwani, who has
00:48no family, has donated all her property to six underprivileged students from her school. She
00:52is also pledged to donate her organs. Her plea has reignited the debate on dignified death and care
00:57for chronic pain sufferers.
