00:00You know, I don't know how to compare, you know, the family of the Browns and their ownership group here, Adam, to anybody else, because every year it feels like this is the one organization that has players holding out.
00:13And in this day and age of the National Football League and the salary cap and the amount of money that these teams are making.
00:18And look, there's always going to be issues with different players throughout the years.
00:21But why does it always feel? Am I wrong, Adam, that it's a Bengals player every year that is the subject of some sort of holdout?
00:28Well, we had the hold in of Jamar Chase. We've had T. Higgins got his deal this year, but they couldn't figure out what to do with T. Higgins.
00:35And then they made a decision and got criticized around the league.
00:38Why are you paying a number two receiver, very good, who's had a big injury history in T. Higgins?
00:44He's a very good football player. But why are you choosing to prioritize him rather than Trey Henderson, your star pass rusher?
00:52And he is vastly underpaid right now. There's no question about it. Making well under $20 million. That's not right.
00:59I mean, he should be making mid to high $30 million per season.
01:03Now, one thing I do want to inform people, and this goes to what you're talking about with money and cash. It's all about cash.
01:09Which is the NFL's funding rule, where almost all fully guaranteed money needs to be put into an escrow account.
01:15You think about all the guaranteed money for Joe Burrow. Fully guaranteed money, that is. Not the injury guarantees.
01:20It's the full money it's running. Right? Full guarantees.
01:23Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, T. Higgins.
01:25Andrew Burrow.
01:27And they're eventually going to get a deal done with Henderson. I couldn't tell you when that is.
01:30Though they've made progress, they feel pretty good about it, where it's headed.
01:33But Trey Henderson is not there. He's subject to a daily fine of $50,000 per day.
01:39So you have to take a look at that. But they want to get this done.
01:43And here's where his leverage is, though, Craig.
01:46Sam Hubbard, the other starting defensive end, retired. Right? Surprising, he retired.
01:50Miles Murphy, their third-year first-round pick, right? In 2023.
01:53Adam Clemson. Hasn't worked out yet.
01:55Joe Sides is a pretty good backup, but he's not a starting level edge rusher.
02:00So they've got a problem right now.
02:02And it goes to your point.
02:04They let things go.
02:05They let things go.
02:08But then they eventually get it done.
02:10But sometimes it's ugly.
02:11Now, if this drags out, and I know Mike Brown said they're not trading him,
02:16and I get that.
02:17I lived this in 2018 when the Raiders Blattle told me they weren't going to
02:19trade Khalil Mack.
02:21John Gruden thought that Mack might hold out into the season.
02:23He never said he would.
02:25And he told Reggie McKenzie, John Gruden, to trade Khalil Mack.
02:28And he did to the Bears.
