20 July - national forecast presented by Thomas Morgan
Transcript
00:00Hello again. It was a wet weekend for many of us and the showery theme will continue
00:04over the next few days as well. It's all courtesy of an area of low pressure that's
00:08been not really moving very far across the UK over the last few days. And even by Tuesday,
00:13the area of low pressure is still across the northwest of Scotland, so we'll still see
00:17a mixture of sunny spells and showers for many of us.
00:20But back to Sunday evening, it's across the north of England, southern Scotland and in
00:24particular Northern Ireland where we like to see the wettest conditions, so some really
00:27heavy rain developing through the early hours across the east of Northern Ireland, potentially
00:31some flooding in places here, and there will be some showers elsewhere across the UK too,
00:36particularly later in the night across the southeast of England where some thunderstorms
00:40may arrive as well. But where we see the clear skies, temperatures will still hold up into
00:45the double figures and where we hold onto the cloud, temperatures not falling much below
00:4815 or 16 degrees, so a pretty mild night to come wherever you are.
00:53Now Monday dawns on a pretty showery and unsettled note, we'll already have the chance of some
00:57thunderstorms in the southeast of England, and a warning is already in place here. And
01:01as we go through the morning, the showers and the heavy downpours become more widespread
01:05across the east of the UK. And it's here where we could see some gusty winds, some hail, some
01:10lightning as well with those thunderstorms. But also, it's here where we like to see the warmest
01:14conditions, so temperatures into the mid-20s, perhaps in a sunshine in between those showers. But
01:20further west, a slightly cooler, fresher feel. And for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,
01:24we'll see the heaviest and most persistent rain here, so the risk of further flooding through
01:28the day, particularly across Northern Ireland. As we go into tomorrow evening, that rain gradually
01:35tends to ease away across Northern Ireland, but it will stay fairly wet, I think, in general,
01:39across the northwestern quadrant of the UK. Further east, more in a way of clear sky developing,
01:44and drier conditions arriving gradually. But it won't be a cold night once again,
01:49temperatures pretty unremarkable, and holding up into the mid-teens for all of us.
01:54Now, Tuesday won't be quite as unsettled as it has been. Make the most of any early morning
01:58sunshine in the east, because it probably won't last. It's likely to be a pretty cloudy day
02:02wherever you are on Tuesday, and out towards the northwest, well, that's likely where we're going
02:06to see further showers at times. But the showers won't be as heavy as they have been on recent days,
02:11and certainly for quite a large area of England and Wales, through the afternoon, we'll probably
02:15get away with largely drier conditions, albeit quite cloudy. If the sunshine does break through,
02:20we might reach 24 or 25 Celsius in the southeast, but generally, temperature is quite a bit lower
02:25than they have been of late. Now, you may want to check our website or our app for further details
02:31on the warnings that are in place. But that's everything from me, and I'll see you again very soon.
