20 September - national forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good morning.
00:01It's going to be a wet start to the weekend for some, and then a change of feel from Sunday,
00:06things starting to turn that bit chillier.
00:08For today though, a very wet start across northern England, parts of Wales, southwest
00:12England as this frontal system slowly edges its way southeastwards.
00:15We could see some quite heavy downpours associated with this area of rain.
00:19A rain warning has been issued across many northern and western parts of the UK, so a
00:23chance we could see some localised flooding which could lead to some impacts.
00:27Now across the far southeast, remaining mostly dry here, though perhaps a bit cloudier than
00:32what it was yesterday, and a mix of sunny spells and showers across Scotland.
00:36These showers perhaps merging into longer spells of rain for Northern Ireland.
00:40In terms of temperatures, a degree or two lower than what they were yesterday afternoon.
00:44Highs still reaching around 23 degrees Celsius across the southeast, but feeling a lot fresher,
00:49particularly in the brisk breeze across the north.
00:53Later into the evening, we do eventually say goodbye to low pressure as it drifts its way
00:57into the North Sea.
00:58Though it could turn quite blustery for a time across North Sea coasts as it does so.
01:03Any rain eventually petering out, but then high pressure building out to the Atlantic does
01:07start to drag in this northerly flow.
01:09So from Sunday onwards, particularly across northern areas, it is going to feel that bit
01:13chillier.
01:14During Sunday morning, there could still be some light outbreaks of rain remaining.
01:18Still fairly cloudy across central and northern parts of England.
01:21And with that cloud, temperatures still do just remain in the low double digits.
01:25It slows around 10 to 11 degrees Celsius, but starting to feel a lot chillier across Scotland,
01:30particularly in the brisk breeze.
01:32Cloud outbreaks of rain will linger for a time before eventually pushing their way into
01:36the North Sea, turning showery in nature across much of England and Wales, still with
01:40a few heavier bursts situated across southern parts of England and Wales.
01:44A lot drier, though, across northern parts of Wales, northern parts of England, but still
01:49a fair few showers pushing into Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:51And some of these showers could turn a little bit wintry across the highest hills in Scotland.
01:56And these are the temperatures that we're looking at by the afternoon.
01:59So still around 16 to 17 degrees Celsius in the south, more towards the mid to low teens
02:04across the north.
02:05But in that brisk northerly wind, things are set to feel a lot chillier.
02:09So if you cross Scotland, Northern Ireland, perhaps northern parts of England, any exposed
02:13coastal areas, it is going to be feeling chilly.
02:15Now, the chillier weather could linger into the beginning of next week, but it should be
02:20mostly dry with also some sunny spells.
