00:00If you're growing a YouTube channel or thinking about it, then you need to stop believing in these 15 myths
00:06because they're killing your channel and your growth, okay?
00:09Number one is I need to wait until everything's perfect before starting.
00:14And this is a belief that holds a lot of people back.
00:16I mean, the reality is your first so many videos, it's your training ground.
00:20You have to start off, make crappy videos, and constantly get better
00:25because you learn by experimenting and getting out there.
00:29So it's going to delay your growth if you're waiting for everything to be perfect, okay?
00:34Next one is you need expensive equipment to succeed in YouTube, and that's false, okay?
00:40The thing is your storytelling and your messaging is actually more important.
00:45And don't get me wrong.
00:46I mean, obviously you need a decent microphone, a decent web camera.
00:51This is natural light I'm using.
00:53So you don't need the best editing to get started or the best equipment.
00:57You can do really good with some very inexpensive equipment, okay?
01:01All right.
01:03Next up is if my content is good, people will just find it.
01:06That's false.
01:07I mean, here's the thing.
01:08You can have the best video in the world, but if you mess up the SEO, the thumbnail, your title, your channel SEO,
01:16your video can stay hitting.
01:18I mean, YouTube's a machine.
01:19You have to make the video for the machine as well as for people, both, okay?
01:23Number three, I think it's three, is more views equals more money.
01:30That's not always true.
01:31I had this belief for such a long time.
01:33There's a lot to monetization, okay?
01:36And one is engagement.
01:38If people die often early in the video, then your channel's going to have a hard time earning money.
01:44Your niche barely affects it, okay?
01:47If you're in, like, beetle fighting, this is maybe beetle humping, then it's going to be hard to make money from that.
01:54And there's so many things that come into monetization.
01:56The truth is you can make a lot of money with a very small channel with little views, okay?
02:02You can still make some pretty good money if you know what you're doing.
02:05All right.
02:06Next one is subscribers equals success.
02:09And subscribers, they do matter, don't get me wrong.
02:14I mean, you need 100 to get a custom URL and need 1,000 to put ads on your videos.
02:19And it makes your channel look credible, right?
02:22And good.
02:23It's bragging rights.
02:24But, I mean, I'll give you a little interesting tip, right?
02:28If somebody watches one or two or more of your videos in a certain amount of your time,
02:34YouTube already considers them a subscriber.
02:36You know, so they're not as big as they used to be, okay?
02:41All right.
02:42Next up, you don't need to promote your videos outside of YouTube.
02:48That's a myth.
02:49I mean, YouTube's a giant.
02:50Don't get me wrong.
02:50It's the number two website in the world, right?
02:54However, I really do believe this, that the secret to really making money is leverage.
03:00You know, so we only have 24 hours in a day.
03:02You already make the video.
03:04You could do a lot with that video.
03:05You could post that same video other places.
03:09There's a lot of places you can do that, too.
03:11And you can repurpose it.
03:12So you do the work once, and you continue to make money off of it.
03:16And that really is a good thing, okay?
03:19All right.
03:19Next up, only new YouTube videos get promoted by YouTube.
03:24That's not true.
03:25It's not.
03:25I know this for a fact.
03:28Clearly, the first 24, 72 hours are already critical for click-through rates, retention,
03:33watch time, engagement.
03:36And if it does good in those metrics, then YouTube will expand that into home, search,
03:40suggested, and more.
03:42However, evergreen content, like videos, they can get views way, like, years later.
03:49Through search traffic, suggested videos, so if people watch similar topics, your video
03:54could pop up, external boosts, and your channel authority.
03:59All right.
04:01And I've had videos that I made years ago do way better than new videos.
04:05So it's true.
04:06All right.
04:07Tags are the key to SEO is definitely false.
04:10They can be a little bit helpful.
04:13They mattered a lot more in the past, but not nearly as much.
04:18Now it's mostly, like, retention.
04:22You know, if people drop off early, that kills your video.
04:26Thumbnails, titles can all be more helpful, okay?
04:30You can't succeed in 2025 without shorts.
04:34That's a myth.
04:36You can, but you'll grow faster with shorts.
04:39And here's the thing.
04:40Shorts have, like, a lower barrier to entry.
04:45They're 15 seconds.
04:46They're so easy to make.
04:48And they actually can do a lot better with – they're pushed off to non-subscribers.
04:55They do more.
04:56And you can get thousands of views in a day from a short video.
04:59You know, it shows your personality, builds awareness, and you can get in front of more people.
05:05So it definitely – but here's the thing.
05:07You can actually grow a YouTube channel without shorts.
05:10It just might be slower if you do really good with retention, your thumbnails, and stuff like that, and posting consistently.
05:18Paid growth is bad or unethical.
05:22It is a myth, okay?
05:24Because it can complement organic growth.
05:27Paid ads have a lot of advantages.
05:30You know, increased subscribers, faster channel growth.
05:33It improves organic performance and testing power.
05:39And it really is a lot.
05:40So when it comes to traffic, I buy into the whole belief of a shotgun approach, you know?
05:45Basically, I mean, do it all, you know?
05:48And they all work.
05:52Okay.
05:53You need a huge budget to see results with YouTube ads is a myth, okay?
05:57Even a small budget can work, like $5, $10 a day.
06:01If you test wisely, you know, and you focus very heavily – like, for example, you could focus heavily on targeted people who are specifically searching for your offer.
06:11You could do that.
06:12And views don't matter.
06:14What matters is the click-through rate, the cost per view, and the conversion rate.
06:19The conversion rate is everything.
06:20And you should be sending them to a landing page to collect emails, okay?
06:24And you could do a lot, which is a little bit of money.
06:28All right.
06:29You can buy your way to the top.
06:31That's a myth, too, okay?
06:32Because here's the thing.
06:33The important thing is engagement, audience trust, quality.
06:36And if you throw a bunch of monies on a shitty video, then it's just not going to work.
06:40It's going to be a waste of money, okay?
06:42So you still need a decent video there.
06:46Paying for views always helps organic reach is a myth.
06:49But paid traffic, it only matters if viewers watch and engage with it.
06:55So that's why everything else still matters, okay?
06:58Paid ads just amplify things.
07:01Okay.
