00:00The Southwest Regional Health Authority has confirmed that two scanners at the San Fernando General Hospital are not working.
00:09TV6 News was told that the machines have been down for weeks, leading to patients being sent to the Point 14 General Hospital to get CT scans.
00:17On Wednesday, the SWRHA said it understands the importance of timely diagnostic services and, quote, at the onset of this rare occasion in which both machines become simultaneously inoperable, the SWRHA implemented immediate measures that minimize disruptions to patient care, end quote.
00:36Also commenting on the disruption, Health Minister Dr. Lac Rambodo says he was advised that full restoration and functionality to the main machine is on schedule for later today, that's June 4th, while repairs to the second machine is earmarked to be completed by June 13th.
00:55He says as part of the immediate contingency plan, patients requiring urgent CT imaging at SWRHA are being accommodated at the Point 14 Hospital and other private facilities within the district.
01:09This approach, he adds, ensures continued access to essential diagnostic services.
01:13However, a formal report has been requested from the CEO of the SWRHA, including measures required to prevent these disruptions in service going forward.
