Transcript
00:00Speaking at a post-cabinet briefing yesterday afternoon, Minister Sturge explained that the deportees were expected to be swabbed and fingerprinted upon arrival and to provide statements to the police.
00:12What happened prior, the agency vision on mission, many times would not know who the deportees were and would have to wait outside of the airport building to try to ascertain who the deportees were and whether they needed assistance.
00:33Sturge added that out of the 21 deportees who were scheduled to arrive this morning, three of them did not have any criminal history and therefore would not be subject to scrutiny.
00:45However, among those returning, three individuals were found guilty of sexual offenses, two involved children and one involved human trafficking.
00:54Therefore, they will be subject to monitoring by the police.
00:57We are of the considered view that they can be registered so that there's protection for society and there's the ability of the police to monitor them so there's no need for undue concern.
01:12The defense minister said he was unable to state whether or not there will be any additional deportations from the U.S.
01:18But he maintained that his ministry is working closely with the TTPS to ensure deportees are facilitated and would not be a threat to society.
