00:00Following the murder of acting Corporal Anoushka Eversley at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station
00:05and the theft of a catch of firearms and ammunition,
00:09a directive was sent by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development
00:12and Local Government Peter Mitchell for ACP of the Trinidad and Tobago Municipal Police Service,
00:18Surindra Sagramsing, to proceed on leave.
00:21Now, one day after that directive, the PS has ordered that all firearms at municipal corporations
00:26are to be lodged at the appropriate TTPS police stations across the country.
00:31The memo dated yesterday said,
00:33In order to ensure proper accountability and compliance with the Firearms Act,
00:38all firearms assigned under these firearms user's license are to be immediately lodged
00:44for safekeeping at the appropriate police station within the relevant jurisdiction.
00:48This process should be undertaken for the consultation with the Senior Superintendent of Police
00:53for the respective division.
00:55Please note that officers may thereafter be issued firearms for duty at the respective police stations
01:00where the firearms are lodged, thereby maintaining operational continuity
01:05while ensuring lawful custody and control.
01:08This measure shall remain in effect pending the completion of a full audit and verification exercise
01:13as well as the regularization of the relevant firearm user's license.
01:18A total of 11 suspects remain in police custody.
