00:00Police are continuing investigations after officers seized more than 25 kilograms of marijuana during a raid at an apartment building
00:07in Sangre Grandi.
00:08The operation, carried out between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. today as part of state of emergency exercises,
00:14targeted a building along Ojo Road containing five apartments.
00:18Officers reported that four of the units yielded nothing illegal.
00:21However, a search of the 5th apartment led to the discovery of 25.5 kilograms of marijuana, which had an
00:28estimated street value of $775,000.
00:32A 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both of the same address, were arrested on suspicion
00:38of possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking.
00:42Investigations are ongoing.
00:43Meanwhile, officers in the Central Division recovered three partially burnt pistols and a quantity of ammunition during an anti-crime
00:52exercise on Saturday.
00:54Acting on intelligence, officers searched an area along Mahayka Road in Freeport, where they discovered a black bag containing three
01:02pistols without any visible serial numbers.
01:05They also seized 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 8 rounds of .38mm ammunition.
01:12Three persons were also arrested in separate incidents for drug-related offenses during the exercise.
01:19And, in the Port of Spain Division, police seized five rounds of high-powered ammunition as well as 210 grams
01:27of marijuana during Operation Steady Guard on Saturday night.
01:31Officers also conducted several searches and field interviews in targeted areas.
01:37And, in a separate overnight exercise along Park Street, Port of Spain, 10 motorists were arrested for driving under the
01:44influence.
01:45Police say the drivers were aged between 31 and 60 and all exceeded the legal alcohol limit of 35 micrograms
01:53per 100 milliliters of breath.
01:5639 vehicles were stopped and searched during the operation, but officers reported that no illegal firearms or ammunition were found.
