Despite frequent reports of fatal road-traffic accidents in recent times , according to information from the TTPS there has been a slight decrease compared to the same period last year.

Nevertheless, the TTPS is urging motorists to be more responsible on the nation's roads, particularly young drivers.

00:00The TTPS is weighing in on the spate of fatal road traffic accidents, a significant percentage of which had victims aged 25 years and younger.
00:10On Thursday, a 22-year-old man lost his life after he lost control of his vehicle and it crashed into a tree.
00:18This of course is the second fatal road traffic crash for the week that occurred on the highway involving a young male driver
00:25after a 25-year-old police officer was killed after he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a utility pole off the side of the highway.
00:35Eight persons, 21% of the persons killed in road traffic accidents were aged 25 and below.
00:43So again, we're appealing to even parents, you know, spend time with your kids, spend time with your young drivers, make sure they're ready for the roads.
00:52And we're asking the public to partner with us to help keeping the roads safe by obeying all road traffic rules.
01:00And despite what appears to be an alarming rate of fatal RTAs in 2025, the TTPS says there has in fact been a slight decrease.
01:10So far for 2025, 38 persons have lost their lives on the nation's roadways compared to 41 for the same period last year, a decrease of 7%.
01:20The TTPS is urging all motorists to be more responsible and aware on the nation's roads and to ensure that their vehicles are in good working order.
01:30The TTPS wishes to remind drivers that motor vehicles are extremely dangerous if operated in a dangerous or irresponsible manner.
01:41And just one unsafe decision or lack of attention can result in an accident, which can result in loss of limb or, of course, loss of life.
01:51Drivers are again reminded to reduce their vehicle speeds, especially when the roads are wet and keep a safe on distance from the vehicle in front.
01:59A total of 122 persons died in road traffic accidents in 2024.
