The Police Service is not backing down from its use of road blocks during the State of Emergency.

And why so many road blocks?

00:04about one aspect of its recent operations, the Trinidad and Tobago
00:08Police Service said on Thursday that quote as part of its continued crime
00:13prevention efforts under the current state of emergency, the TTPS leverages
00:17roadblocks to support in detection and prevention of crime end quote. This
00:22follows video the TTPS posted on its Facebook page on New Year's Day showing
00:26one SOE exercise that was conducted in the Central Division. On Thursday the
00:31Police Service issued a statement on Facebook with the title why are there so
00:35many roadblocks. The TTPS said that roadblocks are strategically conducted
00:39and have resulted in the seizure of many firearms as well as illegal
00:43narcotics and in keeping with that theme the TTPS announced in a separate
00:48media release on Thursday that high-grade cannabis was seized during an
00:51SOE operation in the Western Division on Wednesday night and what the police
00:55described as an intelligence-led operation. The TTPS said the operation
00:59spearheaded by Assistant Police Commissioner Tactical Support Colas
01:03Hazel and coordinated by Senior Superintendent Montrachad, Superintendent
01:07Frank and ASP Peer and supervised by Inspectors Pickett and Haynes was
01:13conducted around 7.45 p.m. on Wednesday the 1st of January 2025. The TTPS said
01:20they seized 70 packages of cannabis with a combined weight of 36.6 kilograms. The
01:27TTPS also announced that its Tactical Support Unit arrested seven persons and
01:32seized the two high-powered rifles and quantities of cannabis during Operation
01:36Blast exercises conducted during the December 2024 period. The Police Service
01:42said that according to ASP Hazel Operation Blast bringing land and sea
01:47together utilizes all branches in executing targeted operations under each
01:52section leader. The TTPS noted that ASP Hazel said that during the month of
01:56December 2024 five operations executed by the Guard and Emergency Branch, the
02:02Interagency Task Force, National Operation Task Force, CASU and ERP E99
02:08resulted in the seizure of the following one AK-47 rifle with 28 rounds of
02:14ammunition, one AR-15 rifle, 1.2 kilograms of cannabis, seven arrests, 581 stop and
02:22search and 329 tickets issued. The state of emergency was declared by the
02:28President on Monday of this week December 30th 2024. During a media
02:32conference Acting Attorney General Stuart Young said the National Security
02:35Council received intelligence from the Police Service that there was going to
02:39be heightened criminal activity with the use of high-powered caliber high
02:43velocity assault weapons and reprisal attacks between gangs. The National
02:48Security Council is chaired by the Prime Minister. On Thursday there was an
02:52official announcement that Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley would be
02:55hosting a media conference at the office of the Prime Minister Central
02:59Administrative Services building in Tobago on Friday.
