00:15what we talk about you on this show a lot behind your back we're like bob's on the he's going from
00:20vegas we say you're at the craps table and then we're wondering is bob flying to forella peg
00:25is bob flying back to the craps table is bob on the road to death valley where's bob we always say
00:32it's like where's waldo we're looking for bob because you're always traveling so when you're
00:36doing the grind of college football every week and college basketball all the time what has that
00:42grind been like on you and your life and your family uh is is it does it age you because i got
00:50honestly it made me drink yeah well oh no i i asked for when i sit down on the plane i
00:58stewardess please you know can i freshen up over here uh yeah i'm right there with you uh look
01:05we there's an old saying and you know we don't want this to get back to espn but
01:09espn doesn't pay us so much to do the games espn pays us to travel right like the games are a blast
01:16once you're there with the people you work with in the arena the place is going crazy and you're
01:21calling a game or in the stadium you're calling a game who doesn't want to be there who doesn't
01:25want to do that what people don't see us do is and you did it right 4 30 in the morning the alarm
01:31goes off and you're dragging your bag and yourself through an airport to get on a 6 30 flight to get
01:36someplace else because you've got to be there um and you're on three hours of sleep and so yeah but
01:41i mean look nobody wants to hear me complain about my job so i never talk about it truthfully
01:47because i i say this all the time as well like even some of the espn pr people will put these things
01:54on twitter or whatever of like look at the schedule this guy's keeping up and i'm like don't do that
02:00nobody wants to hear that i don't want you to do that please don't put up some itinerary
02:05somehow making it seem like i've got this like like i'm digging ditches or something and i and me
02:12dragging myself to an airport every day is a problem right because it's not and and honestly
02:18if i'm a guy with two teenagers and a mortgage that's overdue and i might get fired and i hate my
02:27job and my wife is yelling at me and i got like my weekends are going to be spent at home depot like
02:33that guy doesn't want to hear about how hard it is for me to get from nhl game to nhl game he
02:40doesn't care all that guy wants to do is sit down for two and a half hours crack open a beer and
02:48forget about all of that other stuff about how he's going to make college tuition how he's going to make
02:53the mortgage payment why his family's driving him crazy he just wants to escape for two and a half
02:59hours and he wants to hear hopefully the sound of something that sounds like the guy that's calling
03:06the game having fun because he's supposed to be having fun and so like i i don't ever talk about
03:11the travel i don't ever make it you know make it seem like i've got some heavy lift to do that's my
03:16job my job is to get to the next game and go do it and now look the impact on my family is real
03:21i mean i miss a lot of things i've got five kids you know we didn't mean it we ended up with five
03:26kids oh yeah well you know irish catholic what are you gonna do they just keep coming up so we have
03:31five kids yeah but and i miss a lot of things right i miss a lot of games i miss a lot of high school
03:36shows i miss a lot i miss i miss a lot of things uh you know special family occasions things like that
03:41but everybody's got something about their job that they don't like and for me yeah it's the travel
03:47and it's the time away from home um you know that's that's the sacrifice but again i never talk
03:52about it because the last thing that anybody watching the game wants to hear is for the guy
03:57on tv to make it somehow seem like he's got it tough right like i'm at games for a living and i
04:03certainly understand that and i do not take that for granted
