Extreme heat is continuing to make the battle against large wildfires difficult across western Europe.
Transcript
00:00Wildfires are beginning to stabilize in parts of Spain and France, but the threat isn't over yet.
00:06Temperatures are expected to climb above 100 degrees again as we've gone through our Wednesday,
00:11even firefighters on high alert as they work to contain some of the high spots.
00:15Officials warn that that heat could also allow new fires to ignite,
00:19with concerns that threats could spread to other parts of southern Europe.
00:24So that is a big concern here as we've talked about the heat through western Europe.
00:28Take a look at what we've been dealing with.
00:31This pattern here that we had for this last week of July and even into last weekend,
00:36it was very hot.
00:37The jet stream lifted well north.
00:38Even parts of the UK managed to get in on the heat as we've gone through the early and middle
00:44part of the week.
00:45So what changes?
00:46Finally, we'll get this jet stream to punch back south.
00:48However, it doesn't go all the way through all the places that have been dealing with the heat.
00:53Future radar and clouds shows you there is this front starting to shift its way on in.
00:59It provides some rain, but it gets hung up.
01:01It never makes it through countries like Spain and Portugal where the heat will remain.
01:06And most of those fires in France are in southern France where the front just kind of nears it
01:11and never actually brings any rainfall or moisture into it, as you can see here from this future radar and
01:16clouds.
01:17So we will still have some other storms trying to come in behind it,
01:19but there's not going to be a lot of moisture where those worst hitting fires are.
01:23And that's going to be a challenge for firefighters because we actually could see just a little bit more wind
01:28with the front nearby
01:29and still a lot of heat.
01:30Madrid, we're not out of it yet.
01:32102 for that high.
01:33And we could see the warmth continue for quite some time.
01:36A little bit of relief, though, found in London and places like Paris.
