00:01Trinidad and Tobago Legions won the inaugural CWI Breakout League tournament
00:04after getting the better of Leward Island's Thunder by 17 runs in the final on Saturday in Teruba.
00:10Part of the side was bowling all-rounder Mikel Govaya,
00:12who started playing the game seriously while studying at Fatima College.
00:15Currently 23, Govaya is delighted to have done his part for the TNT Legions.
00:20Just to represent my country is something that I always wanted to do, even when I was playing football.
00:24So to get the opportunity to represent my country and get a title and for the free time that I represent my country
00:32is a feeling that words can't really explain really and truly.
00:35Govaya picked up five wickets in the tournament and had an economy rate of fractionally under eight and over.
00:41Even during a bad game with ball in hand, he held on to three catches against Jamaica Titans.
00:46I think my performances wasn't how I expected it to be or how I planned it to be for the tournament,
00:53but I think that I can't complain much.
00:56I can't complain much because of how many different varieties and skills that we had in the team.
01:02I think I just tried to play the roles that I was asked to play,
01:07and if I didn't do it, somebody else did it.
01:09And then it had games where if other people didn't do it, I came and did it.
01:13Having said that, Govaya wants to keep working on his game as there's always room for improvement.
01:18That includes giving it his all for his domestic club Central Sports,
01:21which is part of the TTCB Premier One competitions.
01:24To me, it's just to start to put in as much as possible personal training work like I used to do before.
01:31I find out recently I haven't been doing it as much.
01:35But for me, for these next few months, with CPL coming up, with Super 50 coming up,
01:40to give myself the best possible chance for selection,
01:43I just want to do very good in our club, fifth over.
01:48And just from there, let's push on, let's train very hard.
01:52The team was captained by Joshua De Silva and coached by Riyad Emrit,
01:55with Omar Khan being the manager.
01:57According to Govaya, it was a pleasure being a part of the Legion's group.
02:01What I could say is I've never played with a cricket team with so much good vibes and good energy with one another.
02:06Everybody was just enjoying each other's success.
02:09Nobody really had any bad vibes like that to say.
02:12Everybody was just one massive vibe between the whole team and everyone.
02:16And just to say what I learned from the men is just to try to keep calm as much as possible in every situation.
02:25Because we work with each other well and help each other well with that.
02:29Because we had belief in each other.
02:30Govaya was congratulated by his dad, Russell Latipi, who used to play football for TNT.
02:36Dubbed the little magician, Latipi wants Mikel to keep on working.
02:40Since Latipi is close to Brian Lara, the question is,
02:43has Govaya ever seeked the advice of the West Indies legend?
02:47I think that because he's not really in Trinidad,
02:51it's a bit hard for him and I to communicate like that.
02:54So we don't communicate much, to be honest, very honest.
02:56But he's more or less one call away because of that for anything, any questions, any advice that I need.
03:07I think he's just one phone call away.
03:09So I think that is always available there for when I need some advice.
03:15Great.
03:16And do you plan to make use of it?
03:19In the future, yes, for sure.
03:21For sure, because the experience he has and the knowledge of the game and what he has done
03:25is something that no one, not everybody would achieve just like that.
03:30Govaya was also a member of the winning St. Lucia Kings squad in 2024,
03:35that being the team's maiden CPL title.
03:38We know now on the Chiefs Sport.
