04:02The new cabinet was sworn in on Saturday Prime Minister Kamala Pasabasas' cabinet featured some key differences to the previous cabinet chief among those the national security portfolio being split in two Trinidad and Tobago now has a minister of defense in Tocosan de Grande MP Wayne Sturge and Tuna Puna MP Roger Alexander retired police officer is now the minister of Homeland Security
04:30and security among the other highlights new Kuva North MP Jolene John is the minister of works and infrastructure while the Vindranath Tanku will for the first time in his political career serve as the minister of finance
04:45Oropuch East MP Dr. Rudal Monilal a former housing minister is the new minister of energy
04:52Stand your ground and home invasion legislation are on the horizon for TNT
04:58Prime Minister Kamala Pasabasasa also announced her government's immediate intention to repeal the Revenue Authority Act and to pursue energy deals with her regional counterparts at the cabinet swearing in ceremony on Saturday
05:12With her cabinet now sworn in Prime Minister Kamala Pasabasasa says her government is set to deliver on their campaign promises
05:22We have now a government in place in Trinidad and Tobago
05:26and the first order of business is boots on the ground and get to work
05:31We have a lot of work to do
05:33A lot of work to do
05:35Full stop, firearms for the people
05:38My attorney general has been given instructions as well to work with our cabinet
05:43to put in place as fast as we can
05:46Stand your ground laws
05:48Home invasion laws
05:55And the regulations that we would need to grant firearms to law abiding citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
06:08The UNC government also intends to review a number of pieces of legislation
06:13including one act established under the previous PNM government
06:17which was touted to crack down on corruption and boost the government's coffers
06:22We have to reform a lot of our pieces of legislation
06:27but let areas of priority be one to repeal the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority Act
06:37Tobago is not to be left out
06:39We will work with the THA because the law for ten years is still and maybe even more
06:47So we will be looking at a model together
06:50That we can truly reflect what we sing in our anthem
06:54Side by side we stand Trinidad and Tobago
06:58And with the dragon failing to dance
07:00Prime Minister Kamla Pasad-Basasa says
07:03Plans are already afoot to seek new energy opportunities within the region
07:08My Minister of Energy has been mandated from day one
07:11Let's explore the offer being made by Guyana to bring gas to Trinidad and Tobago
07:19Let us explore as well what we can do
07:29Suriname is also energy producing
07:32Again we can partner with them
07:34But I have a surprise for you
07:36I intend to send my Minister of Energy to Grenada
07:39Because I am being told that Grenada offshore
07:42Has more gas and oil than the dragon field
07:46But before the government delivers on its other promises
07:50They will be needing the latest account balance
07:53We need to find out what is the state of the treasury
07:57Before we can run off
07:59We have to find money
08:01We have to make money
08:03And rest together work hard
08:05We have to a quick break
08:06We have more news when we return
08:08Thanks for staying with us
08:16Former Prime Minister Stuart Young maintained that the People's National Movement
08:21Remains strong despite the resounding election loss
08:25And said he is looking forward to continuing in a leadership role within the party
08:32Disappointment is part of life
08:33Don't be despondent
08:34You still have a young person
08:36Not only young in name
08:37And a person continues to be more than willing
08:40Ready and able to continue fighting for Trinidad and Tobago
08:44I have won my seat
08:46So I will still be there in Parliament
08:48And believe you me Trinidad and Tobago
08:50Despite tonight
08:51I will fight for Trinidad and Tobago
08:54Despite conceding defeat
08:56Dr. Rowley was also optimistic about the PNM having a political comeback in five years
09:01He said the party will commit to rebuilding over the next 60 months
09:06We wish all the winners well
09:10Because our country is now in their hands
09:13From the reports that we have in our hands
09:15It appears as though if the trends hold
09:18The PNM will end up with an opposition in the order of ten or twelve seats
09:24But we have come back from one seat
09:27We have come back from three seats
09:30So ten or twelve seats don't count us out
09:33But a few days later there are a number of developments in the PNM camp
09:38Including the resignation of Stuart Young as party chairman
09:42The resignation of Dr. Rowley as political leader
09:45And the appointment of Penelope Beckles-Robinson as opposition leader
09:49Here's more
09:51Less than one hour before the People's National Movement began their general council meeting
09:55Two days after the party's substantial loss in the 2025 general election
10:00A press release was issued bearing the signatures of seven of the party's 13 MPs
10:05Announcing their choice for the new opposition leader
10:08According to the document, PNM MPs Simon de Nobrega, Neon Gatspidoli, Marvin Gonzalez, Colm Imbert, Karim Marcel and Keith Scotland
10:17Gave their support to Arima MP Penelope Beckles-Robinson to become the next opposition leader
10:23The final signature was that of Mrs. Beckles-Robinson
10:27For a total of seven signatures
10:29Which equates to a majority of the party's 13 MPs
10:33TV6 News received the confirmation from two of the PNM's MPs
10:38Whose names and signatures are on the document
10:41That it is authentic
10:42MP Beckles-Robinson also gave her confirmation
10:45When she arrived at Balazie House on Wednesday
10:48As the PNM's General Council
10:51Was also set to choose an interim political leader
10:54Yes, the petition is true and I'm looking forward to speaking to you
10:58Among the names and signatures of MPs of the PNM
11:02That are not on the document
11:04Is former Prime Minister Stuart Young
11:06Who announced on his Facebook page
11:08That after reflection on Tuesday
11:11He tendered his resignation as chairman of the PNM
11:14On Wednesday
11:15Effective immediately
11:16Mr. Young thanked the PNM's membership
11:19For the opportunity to have served as chairman of the party
11:23From December 2022 to date
11:25Dr. Keith Rowley who led the PNM to victory in the 2015
11:29And 2020 general elections
11:31Did not seek re-election to the House of Representatives
11:34In the 2025 general election
11:37MP Beckles-Robinson lost to Mr. Young
11:40While they were in government
11:41Which led to him being appointed Prime Minister on March 17th
11:45Following Dr. Rowley's retirement as Prime Minister
11:48It was the first time in Trinidad and Tobago
11:50A Prime Minister was appointed before a general election
11:53It also marked the first time a Prime Minister was not a political leader
11:58One day after being appointed Prime Minister
12:01Mr. Young announced the date of the 2025 general election
12:04Would be on April 28th
12:07He joined the PNM political leader Dr. Rowley
12:09At Balazie House on Monday night
12:11As they conceded to the United National Congress
12:14Which won the general election by a large majority
12:18On Tuesday the Elections and Boundaries Commission announced
12:21That based on the preliminary count
12:23The United National Congress secured 26 of the 41 constituencies
12:27The ABC said the People's National Movement secured 13 constituencies
12:32While the Tobago People's Party secured the two constituencies in Tobago
12:37The ABC also said the UNC had formally requested general recounts
12:42Inclusive of poll cards in three constituencies
12:45Aruka Lopino, Malaba Mausica and San Fernando East
12:49Those recounts began at 3pm on Tuesday
12:52On Wednesday Mr. Young said on Facebook
12:54That he gave his commitment to continue to advocate the PNM's cause
12:59And hold the government to account on behalf of his constituents
13:03His party and the citizens in the Parliament
13:06Also, former Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinan
13:09Tended his resignation as a Deputy Political Leader of the PNM on Wednesday
13:15Jewel Brown, TV6 News
13:18Let's wait and see what happens
13:21The words of former Prime Minister Stuart Young on Saturday
13:24As the incoming UNC government was about to be sworn in
13:28The former Prime Minister also had the same response
13:31When questioned about the PNM's appointment of Penelope Beckles-Robinson
13:36As Opposition Leader
13:38After serving as Prime Minister for just under two months
13:42Stuart Young is now focusing heavily on his MP duties
13:46CCN TV6 caught up with Young during a Thank You Motorcade
13:50Through his constituency today
13:52Today is about going around the constituency I've represented for the last ten years
13:56And I'll continue representing for the next five
13:58And many years after that
14:00And just to thank everybody for their support
14:02When you look at the figures
14:03For the Spain, North, St. Dan's, West
14:05Was one of the most successful PNM constituencies
14:08Won by the second largest margin
14:10And for me, this is life
14:12This is, you know, life throws curveballs at you
14:15And it's what you do with it
14:16I am always grateful to all my supporters
14:19The former Prime Minister was speaking
14:21More hours before the newly elected UNC Cabinet was sworn in
14:26The Yen and Wayne Sturge
14:28And Major Alexander
14:29Will be in the Ministry of National Security
14:31What are your thoughts on these?
14:33The appointment of Cabinet Ministers
14:36Is solely within the purview of the Prime Minister
14:40So those are the people that we all knew
14:43Who the potential picks for a Cabinet
14:45Could be going into the election
14:47So let's wait and see what happens
14:49And that and Tobago will have to deal with whatever the UNC puts forward
14:52Young acknowledged that the people elected the UNC through a democratic process
14:57Even as he issued a somber warning
15:00The country has just gone through a very democratic process
15:04The country knew what they were getting themselves into
15:06The country was cautioned
15:08The country was warned
15:09Let's see what happens now
15:11On April 30th
15:12Young resigned as PNM chairman
15:15Two days later
15:16Penelope Beckles Robinson was confirmed
15:19As the PNM's pick for opposition leader
15:22I think Penelope will restore faith in the PNM
15:26Let us see what happens now
15:28Thank you
15:29How the next few weeks look for you?
15:31How the next few weeks look for you?
15:32How the next few weeks look for you?
15:33How the next few weeks look for you?
15:35Very good
15:36Thank you
15:37Meantime TPP leader Fali Augustine said
15:41The people of Tobago were simply fed up of the disrespect by the former PNM government
15:47Speaking during his party's victory speech at the Scarborough Esplanade on Monday night
15:52Mr. Augustine said the TPP win was an important one for Tobago
15:57When over the last four years we sat quietly and accepted the abuse from PNM
16:05To be able you went out today and you exacted revenge on our behalf
16:10And you have said do not disrespect
16:13You took a loss on Sunday and you disrespected the women
16:18Augustine speaking to hundreds of supporters on Monday night
16:22Had this message to Dr. Rowley on his crab in a barrel statement
16:26This is also a reminder, a reminder to our opponents that Tobagoons are in fact intelligent beings
16:35And we should not be reduced to crabs or animals
16:39Because we are not capable of making informed and right decisions
16:44Such as the one we made tonight with Mr. David Thomas in the East and Joel Samson in the West
16:51Mr. Augustine said with the two-thirds majority in parliament
16:55Tobago's autonomy is on the horizon
16:58He then had this message for PNM Tobago Council political leader Ansel Dennis
17:04I also want to say to Mr. Dennis who earlier tonight conceded defeat
17:11That we thank you for conceding defeat
17:15But I also want to say to the PNM
17:19We thank you for keeping our losers your political leader today
17:23And please do this until the next TPA session
17:28Augustine said the work of the TPP is not finished
17:32As there is now time for reflection, introspection as change within the THA is needed
17:38Augustine then apologised to the people of Tobago
17:42I want to take this opportunity to also say to Tobagoons fans why
17:48If Brad Venture we have disappointed you over the last three to four years
17:55Then we are truly sorry
17:57Because this is a government that is not hard headed
18:01We don't believe that we have gotten everything right
18:04But we certainly know that we are better than our opponents
18:08And we are currently the best choice on this island
18:12To come along from this island
18:14And representations to the national parliament
18:18Augustine congratulated incoming Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissasa on the UNC's win
18:25And her second term as Prime Minister
18:28And stated a unified approach was needed in the country moving forward
18:33Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News
18:36This is the past seven days on six
18:39We'll be right back
18:41Welcome back
18:47The president of the joint trade union movement
18:50Walked shoulder to shoulder with the UNC's elected MPs for Point 14 and Delivery
18:56During May Day celebrations last week
18:58The UNC MPs donned the union T-shirts and walked with their fellow comrades
19:03Through the streets of San Fernando
19:05For the annual commemoration of the labour movement
19:09Today is a good day to celebrate
19:12Today is a good day to celebrate
19:13Today is a good day to celebrate
19:16Today is a good day to walk
19:19It's book as time now
19:21There was a late start to May Day celebrations on Thursday
19:24As the joint trade union movement
19:26Awaited approval from the TTPS
19:28To walk the streets of the city of San Fernando
19:31In a pre-walk address
19:33President of JATUM
19:34Head of the OWTU Ansel Roger
19:37Spent some time criticizing the former Rowley led PNM administration
19:42After they attack us
19:44After they try to destroy us
19:47They turn around
19:48And they say
19:50Trade union dead
19:51Trade union dead in the country
19:54Trade union weak in the country
19:57But trade unions are the ones that make a difference in this country
20:03And I go back to the prophetic words
20:06From a joint speech that says
20:08Those who seek to destroy it
20:10The OWTU's work and trade union
20:12Will only end up destroying themselves
20:14He says when unions tried to negotiate with the Dr. Rowley led government
20:22It had been like hitting a stone wall at every turn
20:26And shared these sentiments with the former Prime Minister
20:29Go in peace and feed your sheep and goat
20:31Go in peace and deal with your family and so on and so on
20:36Go in peace and deal with your family and so on and so on
20:38And leave us in peace
20:39Go in peace and spend the big, your fat pocket of money and so on
20:44The pension that you got
20:45At the same time when you deny workers
20:48You deny workers at just wage
20:50You take everything by yourself
20:52You don't see how happy you will be
20:54In spending that money
20:55Yes
20:56Black money
20:57Is difficult money to enjoy
20:59On Thursday, he congratulated UNC political leader
21:03Kamala Passat Bisasa on being elected Prime Minister
21:06And told reporters
21:08He is confident
21:09This would change the direction of wage negotiations
21:12And conditions for workers for the better
21:15We have a lot to do
21:18With very little time to do it
21:21We have a workers agenda
21:23To implement
21:25And all workers, working people will benefit
21:29As Jatham worked for the annual May Day celebration in San Fernando
21:33Roche was joined in the front line by his union comrades
21:37And UNC Labour candidates
21:39Now incoming MPs 4.14 and Labre
21:42Ernesto Kiza and Clyde Elder
21:45Cindy Raghuwantika Singh, TV6 News
21:49Sport is up next
21:51Keep it here
21:52In sport, Trinidad and Tobago's Jareem Richards set a world leading time of 19.86 seconds in the men's 200 meters to win at the inaugural Grand Slam track in Miami last week
22:12Richards had a battle down to the line with the Dominican Republic's Alexander Ogandu
22:18But grabbed the win by 0.002 seconds
22:23He was rewarded with 12 points
22:25Oganda, who broke his national record, earned 8 points
22:29Meantime, Zambia took third spot in 20.23 seconds
22:35Pretty even start from everybody
22:39Hudson Smith takes out a couple of meters of Gardner
22:41Who has not got away but
22:42But look at Ogandu literally
22:43He's absolutely shot round the top bed
22:45And right on the inside, Patterson is going well
22:47But it's Ogandu who's leading this one at the moment
22:50Ogandu and then Jareem Richards is right up there
22:53These two are pulling away
22:54Sam Akonga's having a great race
22:55Richards and maybe
22:58Ogandu just got it on the lead
23:00But it was sad news for cricket fans
23:03As the Trinidad and Tobago Legions
23:05Suffered their first defeat
23:07Competing in the Cricket West Indies Breakout League
23:10They were defeated by the Leeward Islands Thunder by three wickets
23:14Amir Jangu struck a quick fire half century
23:17But it was not enough to defend 151 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy
23:23The Trinidad and Tobago Legions took first strike against the Leeward Islands Thunder
23:28Intelligent
23:30Joshua Da Silva and Amir Jangu opened the innings and got a good start
23:34Da Silva was the first to go, 20 for one
23:37Jangu became more aggressive as the innings went along
23:41And the Legions looked to be approaching a place of comfort
23:45However, they lost two quick wickets with a score on 85
23:49Special one, we know how powerful a goalie can be
23:52And another two on 114
23:55Another chance presented
23:58Another catch accepted
24:00They were losing wickets in clusters
24:02And had it not been for a last over blitz from Johan Lane
24:05The score would have been much worse
24:07Jangu top scoring with 52 from 39
24:11TNT getting to a competitive score of 151 for 8 off 20 overs
24:17Micah McKenzie was the chief wicket taker with 4 wickets for 25 runs
24:22Johan, Yogi
24:25In reply, the Leewards lost two early wickets
24:29He's tried on three previous occasions, Cornelius
24:34To get dismissed
24:36And this time he succeeds
24:38However, they were prepared to go for the long haul
24:41Yeah, he gets it over the infield
24:44Couple bounces for four
24:46Kofi James and Jewel Andrew took their score to 86
24:50Before the loss of the third wicket
24:52Giovante de Pisa added 32
24:54They lost three wickets seven runs away from victory
24:59Including that of Anderson Mahes
25:01Still though, they had enough wickets and overs in hand to win the match
25:06They chased 152 in 17 overs
25:09Handing the Legions their first defeat of the competition
25:13Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport
