00:00I heard recently that that isn't even, I mean, just the old, you know, sneaking the look at your next door neighbor's paper is not necessarily the chosen form of cheating these days because so much stuff is done online now that students are using Google Docs quite a bit to cheat with.
00:23All the time. And so now they're, they're trying to make, in fact, they've said they've noticed a, um, a general increase in, um, grades that they believe is artificially manipulated through the, and so much so that Google itself has stepped up and has, um, like I'm looking at an article here that they're trying to set up ways to prevent Google Docs being used for cheating.
00:47So here's the way I understand that this works. And if I'm wrong, please tell me we've got, we've got students here. We've got strippers that know the answers as well. Cause Victoria was chiming in on this while we were off air. Um, that if someone takes a test in a class before you, that you're going to have that same class and they therefore can get that exact exam that you're about to take and send that to you before you take the exam. Is that kind of the way it works? Is that what I understand?
01:17You know, who knows? Ben knows. Ben, come in here. Ben. Intern Ben, we're going to get him on the mic. And, um, by the way, Ben, are you currently a student?
01:26Uh, yes, I go to Temple University right now. I've been there for three years now.
01:30Okay. All right. So, uh, what I was just saying, I know you guys were busy in the other room there. Uh, when, when someone is taking an exam, they can take that exam and give it to someone else who has a, a, a, that same test later on in the day. Is that how it works?
01:43So, it totally depends. But, like, a lot of the times it will just be on your laptop in class and it's impossible to govern everyone's laptop, as you can imagine.
01:52Okay.
01:53Okay.
01:53You all right?
01:54You had to run in.
01:55He's a little nervous.
01:57I was like, I was like, I was like that.
02:01And, actually, it's a thing. It's a total document.
02:04I was like, I've talked to Ben many times. I've never heard his voice quite like that before.
02:09Since as we had to matriculate through the process of the double universal thing, of course, enriched by the learning that we have.
02:15So, so, so, I guess.
02:17You poor kid. You poor kid.
02:18I guess, no, Ben doesn't talk like that.
02:20He's so excited to come on here with us.
02:21We just, we just pulled him in half by, it's not his fault. It's not his fault.
02:25Call off court, that's all.
02:26Okay.
02:26So, Ben, I guess what Preston's asking is, how does the document get disseminated to everyone who's looking to cheat off that original document?
02:34So, you can have a Google Doc open on your laptop in, like, a separate tab, and then you can send it to anybody that has, like, a Google email.
02:42And, of course, our school uses Google for everything.
02:44So, you can have the Google Doc, I guess, open on a different browser.
02:47Right.
02:48And just sort of toggle between the two, the test and the Google Doc test, Google Doc.
02:52I don't know.
02:53Gabby's here as well.
02:55She's also a student.
02:56You know a little bit more.
02:57I'm just kidding.
03:03Poor Ben.
03:04We pull him in while he's trying to do other work.
03:06So, we've.
03:08What's your take on it, Gabby?
03:10Yeah.
03:10So, if you're in a group, just like in a group, when you're doing one of your assignments, you obviously have everybody's email.
03:18So, you can set up this Google Doc where you can share everything that you do.
03:21So, even if you're in one class earlier and you have a friend that's in the next class later in the day, you can just share that document with other people in other classes.
03:29Okay.
03:30And, Victoria, were you the student?
03:31Did you do this or hear about this happening as well?
03:34Yes.
03:34Why is your mic not on?
03:35I'm sorry.
03:35Go ahead.
03:36Yeah.
03:36Yes.
03:37So, when I was in school, it was just super easy.
03:41Well, first of all, the website is pretty, like, once you, like, get it down, it's super easy to, like, use.
03:46And, yes, like, sharing is, like, so easy, and it's so easy to communicate on there amongst many people.
03:51Did anyone ever float?
03:53I mean, because they're saying that it's actually having, it has had, and Google has actually had to step in to give teachers ways to fight this.
04:00Do you know anyone who's ever cheated using the system?
04:03Uh-huh.
04:05Well, that's what I was going to ask.
04:07Actually, no, I'm not aware.
04:09Ben has something to say about the Apple Watches.
04:11Yes.
04:11So, not about the Apple Watches, but I do have a story we can go into.
04:14Okay.
04:14Please do.
04:14So, in high school, I went to a tech school.
04:17So, I was in the computer programming, obviously.
04:20Right, yeah.
04:20Obviously.
04:21But we figured out a way to cheat on the learning guides, which is, like, our little, like, our little exercises to learn how to program.
04:27But the teacher caught wind of this.
04:29Yeah.
04:29So, for a month, every student had to handwrite all their code.
04:34Oh, God.
04:34Because we were cheating, which is, like, Java and HTML.
04:37That's awful.
04:38That's crazy.
04:39That's all little symbols.
04:40We had to handwrite all of it, then we had to type it up, and that was, like, his way to prevent us from cheating.
04:44And I was pissed, because I wasn't cheating.
04:47I was the one actually doing it right.
04:48Because all the other students were.
04:48This is outlandish.
04:50This is absolutely outlandish.
04:52Take it outside and kick your ass.
04:54Did you rat everybody out because you weren't cheating?
04:56What am I, a monk?
04:57This is ridiculous.
04:59No, Casey, I was trying to be cool.
05:01No, no.
05:01But so that's, how did you, how long did it take to take a test like that?
05:06Well, for what would take five minutes on the computer was about 25 on the paper.
05:10Jesus.
05:11Just because you've got to remember the symbols, you've got to sprinkle them or whatever.
05:16Just, you have to talk through them.
05:17Just keep talking.
05:18This is the goddamn dumbest thing I've ever heard.
05:20It's a goddamn ridiculous.
05:2225 on the paper.
05:24No, but I mean, to write, he was talking about writing code is, all symbols and intense
05:29stuff.
05:30Preston, get yourself together.
05:33I can't.
05:34That's Steve.
05:36Steve being outrageous fan is killing me.
05:39Oh, this is an outrage.
05:42Preston, our dancer wants to chime in here as well.
05:44Oh, yes, Victoria.
05:46Yes.
05:46Yeah, don't forget about me.
05:47Okay.
05:47I'm sorry, Victoria.
05:48No, it's okay.
05:49It's just so funny.
05:50I'm listening to how far people will go to actually cheat, and I went to a really good
05:55school, and we would literally cheat in groups, and the teachers had no idea.
05:59That's how it was.
06:00No idea.
06:00I guess they were just paid so well.
06:02I swear, they didn't care.
06:04Do you think there's some credence to the fact that schools who rely on how well the school
06:09is performing would allow this to happen?
06:12I guess to keep up with the standards or whatever.
06:15Their reviews and stuff like that?
06:17Yeah.
06:17I mean, I went to a really good school, so I guess high test scores were super important.
06:23So it's plausible deniability, right?
06:25That you can say, okay, they're just getting good grades.
06:28And what's funny enough, in ninth grade, I actually had a social studies teacher that
06:32would literally grade you on if he liked you or not.
06:36We would write what we have for breakfast on, literally, I would write the most ridiculous
06:41answers, and some of them would be right, and some of them would be wrong.
06:44I swear this man graded you on whether he liked you or not, or maybe your outfit that
06:48day.
06:48Like, I swear he didn't care.
06:49I bet you did very well.
06:50Yes, being stunningly gorgeous helps, too.
06:52I passed, by the way.
06:54And he passed.
06:55It's gotta be so hard.
06:55He was a G.
06:56He was awesome.
06:57What's going on over here?
06:59Just gonna see super hot she passes?
07:01Fuck!
07:01Fuck!
07:01I'm here writing goddamn code.
07:04My fingers are falling off.
07:07She talks about having eggos, and she gets an A+.
07:10You're a good sport, Ben.
07:16Well, it's an outrage, frankly.
07:19Goddamn says I have a rheumatoid arthritis writing all this code.
07:22And over here, she says she had a Pop-Tart for breakfast, and she has an A+.
07:25I love when you threaten to take their ass.
07:31I'll slide now.
07:32I'm gonna put my foot so far up your ass, you're gonna see my big toe coming out your
