00:00All right, Commercial Free New Country 99.5 QIK, JR, Lana, Kevin here, and we are joined
00:04by someone very special that you may know a TikTok dance to, because she is just that
00:10cool that they had to make a dance to her song, Austin, Dasha, in studio.
00:14Hey, welcome.
00:15How are you guys?
00:16We're doing great.
00:17Thank you for being here.
00:18I'm still working on the dance.
00:19It's okay.
00:19We can work on it today.
00:20That'd be great.
00:21We can do it step by step.
00:22Okay, I need that, because I do know how to line dance, but I have not gotten this one
00:26down yet.
00:27He's actually pretty good.
00:28He works.
00:29So we'll get it.
00:30We'll get it.
00:30So we're excited to have you here, and this has been kind of a whirlwind for you the last,
00:35what, six months to a year?
00:37No, it's been like four months.
00:39Four months.
00:39Yeah, the song blew up the second week of February, so it's just been a rocket shit since then.
00:45I've just been like hanging on for dear life, is what it feels like.
00:48So let me, so you went to Nashville, you were writing songs, and you had a couple of labels,
00:53and then you put this song on TikTok first, and then you put the dance to the song.
01:00And then you got signed by the label, and now everything's crazy.
01:02Is that how it kind of went?
01:03Kind of.
01:04So I wrote Austin back in May.
01:06I was independent, had no manager, no label.
01:08I dropped everybody, because I had one before.
01:10Okay.
01:10It all dropped.
01:11Just going back to country music, that's where I started.
01:13Went to pop for a little bit, went back to country.
01:16And when I wrote Austin and the rest of the album, I was like, this is special.
01:19Like, this is what's going to blow me up.
01:21And so we based the entire album rollout around Austin, but that came out in November.
01:26So it was out for a couple months, and then I was like, I'm going to make a line dance
01:29to the song.
01:30And that's what blew the song up.
01:31Wow.
01:32Yeah.
01:33And how long did it take you to make up the line dance?
01:36A couple days.
01:37We went through a couple different rounds.
01:39At first, it was very complicated, and really girly, and a lot of booty shaking, you know?
01:45Which is my favorite.
01:46Which is your favorite.
01:47And I was thinking of JR in my mind, and I was like, he would crush this right now.
01:51Right.
01:51But then I was like, well, I should probably make it a little simpler.
01:55Yeah.
01:55So then we simplified it a little bit.
01:57So that more people can learn it.
01:58Exactly.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Exactly.
01:59I love that.
02:00So take me to that day you're watching your TikTok video, and it's just blowing up and
02:04blowing up and blowing up.
02:06And then how did, I mean, what were you doing that day?
02:07Just freaking out?
02:08Yeah.
02:09I posted it one night, and then I woke up with like a million views.
02:11And I was like, oh.
02:12One night?
02:13I was like, oh, that's crazy.
02:15And then by the few days later, it had like 10 million, and then they just kept going.
02:18Every single video I'd post with the line dance would just get a crazy amount of views.
02:22I think the top one was 70 million views.
02:24Wow.
02:25And it was like 20 that went viral.
02:27It was insane.
02:28It's very smart marketing on your part, by the way.
02:30I appreciate that.
02:31I mean, it really is, because we've heard other artists like, you know, like the Fancy
02:34Like Dance with Walker Hayes that did so well for him.
02:37Totally.
02:37It's just very smart to do something where people can attach, you know, a dance in this sense
02:42to a song that's very catchy.
02:45Yeah.
02:45Also, then I don't have to post a song other people posting the dance.
02:48It's just marketing my music for me.
02:50Right.
02:50Right.
02:51We always tell people.
02:52So much smarter than me.
02:53I hate it.
02:54Yeah.
02:54Find, you know, find a way to stand out.
02:56Exactly.
02:56That's what you got to do in really any business is just figure out a way that you can stand
03:01out above everybody else.
03:02And congratulations.
03:04You made it.
03:04Yeah.
03:05Now you've got all these views.
03:07And how many followers do you have now?
03:09Millions.
03:10Overall, about a million.
03:11Yeah.
03:12That's huge, though.
03:13I mean, like you said, last year at this time.
03:16Nothing.
03:17What were you doing?
03:17I mean, I had not nothing.
03:19I had put out my album, Dirty Blonde.
03:20I was super proud of it.
03:22And I had a little following from my pop music and stuff.
03:25But I don't know.
03:26Something had to shift.
03:27I put the album out and I was like, this is so not me.
03:29It just didn't feel like genuine.
03:31Yeah.
03:31And you change so much as like a young female, you know, and I was just a different person
03:36than who I was making that other music.
03:38And so that's why I went back to country.
03:39And I'm like, this is just has my heart.
03:41So what has been probably the coolest thing that you've gotten to do in the last couple
03:46of months or meet or people that you've met?
03:49Honestly, like all like getting so such a warm welcome into the country community has been
03:54my favorite thing ever.
03:55Like Key West, for example, and like the ACMs and the CMTs getting performed there, performing
04:01on Jimmy Kimmel.
04:02Yeah.
04:02Like that.
04:03It was just like the craziest month.
04:05It's been the craziest month ever.
04:06Just thing after thing.
04:08And I'm getting playing, doing my Grand Ole Opry debut on the 15th.
04:12Wow.
04:12Nice.
04:13I'm so honored.
04:13Wow.
04:14That's huge.
04:15Yeah.
04:15So my parents are coming out for that.
04:17But just like the craziest things are happening.
04:19I'm going on a tour with Parker McCollum this summer.
04:22Yep.
04:22There you go.
04:23European headline.
04:24It's just, it's all happening.
04:25I love that.
04:26Yeah.
04:27I'm so happy for you.
04:28Now, are your parents the parents that are kind of like, well, this is great, honey.
04:31Or do they comprehend?
04:33They are so proud.
04:34They were like my first managers.
04:35They were booking me shows when I was 10.
04:37Okay.
04:37So they know the business.
04:38So they're in the business.
04:39They are so proud.
04:40Yeah.
04:41Can I still have to explain to my parents what I do for a living?
04:43And my dad goes, my dad goes, you should be in sales.
04:46And I go, well, dad, I do a show.
04:48But that's a different thing.
04:49Oh my God.
04:50No, my parents, my dad like cries every single time he sees me.
04:52Aw.
04:53That's so cool.
04:53I get to bring him a box of tissues.
04:54That's so cool.
04:55It's really cute.
04:56I love that.
04:56That's great.
04:57All right.
04:57So you've been meeting a lot of the new people.
04:58So who's the most famous person in your phone now?
05:01Oh, Keith Urban, maybe?
05:03Get out.
05:04That's like her crush.
05:05How do you have his phone number?
05:06Can I have it?
05:06He texted me the other day.
05:08Just text it?
05:09Really?
05:10Yeah.
05:10I've been trying for 20 years.
05:13I've been trying to get that man to text me.
05:15Jeez, you've been around for a couple of months.
05:17See how this works?
05:18See the jealousy right there?
05:20No, I'm super happy for you.
05:22Get her phone later.
05:24What did you say?
05:25What did you text him back?
05:26He sent me the cutest text.
05:27He goes, hey, Dasha, this is Keith and in parentheses Urban.
05:30And I'm like, oh, I know.
05:32I know who you are.
05:33He was so humble.
05:33It was sweet.
05:34But he was just reaching out and being kind and congratulating me and stuff.
05:38Awesome.
05:38Yeah.
05:39Love that.
05:40We're so happy for your success.
05:41And it's just going to keep going.
05:43Because you have so many things lined up.
05:44And I'm pumped for you.
05:45Yeah.
