Our thoughts and prayers are with his family
Transcript
00:00People are just struck at the news that Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion,
00:05widely considered one of the greatest drivers in the sports history,
00:09died suddenly yesterday at the age of 41.
00:14Yeah, he was hospitalized with a sudden and severe illness.
00:18Now, no cause of death was given.
00:20His family had announced earlier in the day that he had been admitted for treatment,
00:24and that's why he wouldn't be competing that weekend in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway,
00:29and he died just hours later.
00:32So that news came out yesterday.
00:34What you may not know is that Kyle Busch sought medical attention for a substantial cough
00:40during the Watkins-Glenn race just a couple of weeks ago.
00:44Jeff Gluck is a reporter for The Athletic, and he shared this video from Fox.
00:50Michael Waltrip said earlier in the race that a confident Kyle Busch is a dangerous Kyle Busch.
00:57It's your 69th victory in this series, your fifth right here.
01:02Why do these moments never get old, Kyle?
01:04Because you never know when the last one is.
01:07It was just two weeks ago.
01:10Just two weeks ago, right?
01:11Like, I mean, two weeks ago, he needed medical attention at Watkins-Glenn.
01:15And that interview happened after the truck race at Dover just last weekend.
01:21Gosh, it's just totally shocking, right?
01:25You get a 22-year career.
01:27He and his brother.
01:28His brother's a Hall of Famer.
01:30Kurt Busch.
01:31Yeah.
01:31Like, 41.
01:32It's, like, shocking, like, back in, what was it, 01, when Dale died.
01:36Right.
01:37Right.
01:37It's like that.
01:39It's crazy.
01:40And the thing I think about most is he's a dad.
01:43Yeah.
01:44I know.
01:44I can't, you know, my wife and I were in bed last night reading up about it in shock.
01:50He's 41 years old.
01:51He's a year older than me.
01:52Yeah.
01:52The Busch brothers are from Las Vegas, and so is my wife.
01:55So they've got a special connection to her hometown.
01:57And she saw him speak at schools when she was growing up and stuff like that.
02:02And they have an 11-year-old and a 4-year-old.
02:04Yeah.
02:04And we were just so, I mean, it's devastating.
02:08Yeah.
02:09The thing about NASCAR, if you've never followed it, is that you, what you love about NASCAR
02:15is that you love your driver, and it's even more fun to hate the other drivers.
02:20And honestly, the Busch brothers were so easy to hate if you were not, because they were
02:24so good.
02:25They're so good.
02:25And they had this, like, arrogance about them.
02:27Well-deserved.
02:29Like, I'm not putting them down at all.
02:30Yeah.
02:30Right?
02:30But, like, Kyle Busch would drive that M&M's car, and then all the kids loved him because
02:35it was the M&M's car.
02:36Right.
02:36And I'd be screaming, like, but he's such a, like, I hate that guy, because he was
02:41good, and he wasn't my guy.
02:43Right.
02:43You know?
02:43Like, that's the fun thing about NASCAR.
02:46And, I mean, they made a career on it.
02:47Those guys did so, so well.
02:49It is just shocking.
02:51And then Greg Biffle's death just six months ago when, and his plane crashed, right?
02:56Like, so many horrible, horrible stories.
02:59But anyway, yeah, like, thoughts and prayers definitely with everybody in the NASCAR community
03:04as they try to piece this all together and figure out what happened to Kyle Busch.
