NE Youth is celebrating 90 years of being an organisation specialising in helping young people across the region

00:00From their humble beginnings in 1935 as the Northumberland Association Boys Club,

00:05the charity has evolved and changed hugely over the last 90 years.

00:09Any youth now offers direct open access youth provision and targeted programmes

00:14which reflect their deep commitment to addressing the changing needs of young people over the years.

00:19I spoke with John Niblow, the CEO, to find out more.

00:22Yeah, so we're really excited to be at the Fed here today, preparing for our 90th God of Dinner.

00:30You know, we're really excited, you know, it's a real opportunity to sort of celebrate

00:34and share memories about the history of the organisation from being Northumberland Boys Clubs

00:39to Northumberland Clubs Young People and now any youth, but also an opportunity to connect and

00:45build relationships and also to raise money. You know, again, as a charity, you know, we need to

00:51bring in new resources to continue to fund all the fantastic work that we do with young people.

00:57And as part of the 90th anniversary, we set ourselves an ambitious target to raise additional £90,000.

01:03So yeah, so as part of the anniversary year, we've got a number of different things organised.

01:08At the heart of the sort of the year is a bit of a campaign around sort of what we call

01:13one in a million because we've estimated that the organisation has worked with over a million young

01:17people in its history. We want people to come forward who've been part of that history,

01:22people who remember going to a boys club or a youth club or a junior sports club and remember being

01:28part of, well, and remember what that gave them at the time and the opportunities that they received

01:35and how they grew and learned from that experience. And also how did they connect with any youth at the

01:40time? Because we used to run a lot of inter-club activities, competitions, tournaments. So we want

01:46people to come forward and share those memories with us. We really do. Yeah, so to get involved

01:52with one in a million, just go to the website. There's an easy link to click on just to share your

01:58stories, share your memories, and we'll come out and talk to you. And then we can build that into the

02:01kind of the comms around the whole anniversary year. Yeah, the goal is going to be amazing.

02:07And at the heart of it is young people. We've got young people performing and we've got young

02:12people performing in groups and as individuals and they're young people that are part of that

02:18any youth network. So it's a great opportunity, a great platform for them to perform at such an

02:23amazing event. But then there'll be some short speeches and we've got a short film as well, which

02:28captures the voices of some of those adults now who are young people and remember those experiences.

02:37Speaking of performers, I caught up with Charlize from R1 community.

02:41He'll be dancing at the gala. It's really exciting. We do a lot of work with R1 community and any

02:49youth, not going at the Youth Alliance in like the North East. And to be performing and having

02:54members performing here as well, I mean, it gives them an amazing opportunity. It gives me an amazing opportunity.
