00:00For 90 years, NEUF has been at the heart of supporting young people across the North East.
00:05Founded in 1935, the charity works to improve the lives of thousands of children and teens,
00:11offering mentoring, skills training, youth clubs and development opportunities
00:15that help build brighter futures. To celebrate this incredible milestone,
00:19NEUF is inviting businesses and supporters to take on a unique challenge in the Lake District,
00:25climbing nine iconic Wainwright Peaks to raise funds for their life-changing work.
00:30We started out a long time ago, as you know, 90 years ago, as Northumberland Boys Clubs,
00:35which obviously centred around physical activity and sport.
00:39And we wanted to add that to our calendar of events to cover that part of our history
00:45and provide something a little bit different for supporters and members to get involved with.
00:50And so what we wanted to do was kind of create a challenge. Not everybody is as active as they'd
00:56like to be. And we like to challenge our young people as well and get them involved and bring
01:03them in different skills via our sessions, via our programmes, because life involves challenges.
01:10And that kind of mirrors what we do with young people that we educate, we inform,
01:14we bring them along in ways that school and their personal lives don't manage to cover.
01:20So we wanted something that was challenging, but not too much of a challenge.
01:24We didn't want it to be for really experienced walkers because we want it to be an inclusive
01:29thing that everybody can join in with. So we were keen to get the number nine in there,
01:33obviously with the 90th anniversary. But the route itself is challenging enough,
01:39but most of the first part is an uphill climb. And by the time you get to the middle part,
01:46it's an ascent downwards, obviously bringing the splendor of the autumnal
01:53lake district into what is a lovely event for supporters to get involved with.
01:59Yeah, so obviously the 10th of October is World Mental Health Day. And as World Mental Health Day
02:06unfolds across the entire planet, we want to stake our claim in the corner and kind of discuss the
02:13mental health issues that young people face. It's an ever growing concern for them and informs more
02:21and more of what we do as an organisation. And we know that physical activity is very important for
02:29your mental health and your wellbeing. So it's a case of kind of mirroring that, get people out into
02:35the beautiful fresh air of the lake district, see that autumn splendor and get out with like-minded
02:42people, have that walk and engage with stakeholders and supporters about what we do.
02:49You know, it's always good to support young people, especially now where times are particularly
02:54tough with young people in terms of the world that they're going into.
