00:00A community event in Throckoli has put the spotlight on the role of youth services after local young people helped
00:06bring families together at the sports bravillium.
00:09The afternoon includes sport, inflatables, crafts and food alongside activities designed to support the youth group and to bring people
00:16from the area together.
00:18So this is the fifth year. It originally started just after COVID. The young people that we worked with wanted
00:24to do something good to bring everyone together.
00:27So we got help through the quay and obviously other bits of funding and they've put it on and that's
00:33why it's called Bringing Throckoli Together.
00:35That was the original name and every year they've like stuck to that because they've asked for it more and
00:40more. So every year we try to get it bigger.
00:42The elder's daughter, she's 19 now. She started coming to the youth club with Hayley and she was bringing all
00:49her friends and then they were all thinking in the summer of what they could do for the community.
00:53And they came up with this idea of bringing everything out and it's been happening every year since and it's
01:02bringing all the kids together. All the kids love it.
01:07Any youth currently runs a weekly open access youth session in Throckoli for young people aged 11 to 16.
01:13The sessions provide a space to meet friends and take part in activities including team building, cooking, sport, arts and
01:20crafts, issue based workshops and social action projects.
01:24The youth group has also organised community events in the past, giving young people opportunities to plan activities and to
01:30engage with people living in the area.
01:32Oh, it's massive at the minute because I know they'll go to school and things like that which will have
01:37safe spaces there but when they come to the youth club there are actually individuals that can be themselves and
01:42like thrive for who them are and don't need to like pretend to be anybody else really.
01:48The youth club's on like every Wednesday, the youth club, which is a good thing is not to get out.
01:53Yeah, we're doing like two games, we can do like sports, tie-dying, pretty much talk about anything.
02:04It's helped my daughter like quite a lot with our mental health, just supporting her, even supporting us as a
02:13family.
02:13We don't need any worries, we used to just go to Hayley and the people who were working there and
02:19they wouldn't put me in the right direction.
02:21Because when she went to college and then she'd done an eyelash course and an eyebrow course and now she's
02:27a fully qualified hairdresser, fully qualified beautician of doing eyebrows, eyelashes and she's just passed her driving test so she's
02:37doing great.
02:39The event provides a chance for local young people to take an active role in their community while highlighting the
02:46activities available through the youth service.
02:49MEU says its regular Throckmatch session continues each week, providing opportunities for young people to meet, take part and develop
02:57new skills.
