00:00Political scientist Dr. Vishnu Raghunath is uncertain as to what propelled the
00:05Screening Committee of the United National Congress to replace Rujunath
00:09in Darsing with Barry Podarath in the Kuva South constituency. However, from
00:13his lens, it was not jaw-dropping.
00:30The political scientist does not foresee the change in Kuva South and
00:39Princestown, which will be contested for the UNC by Dr. Ayana Ali, having any
00:45impact based on voting trends and the fact that both constituencies are UNC
00:50safe seats. Dr. Raghunath believes that a UNC is attempting to change a face of
00:59the party in the hopes of winning the general election. In order for them to do
01:04that, he tells us, the UNC must draw support from outside of its base in
01:09marginal constituencies and further changes along those lines will not
01:14surprise him. The political scientist notes the pledge of support for the UNC
01:19from in Darsing and even Jayanti Lachmedial, who has also not been
01:23selected, compared to the approach taken by those who have been referred to as
01:28UNC dissidents.
01:45As it pertains to Roger Alexander contesting Tunapuna and his campaign on
01:50crime, Dr. Raghunath is of the view that it is likely to add appeal to the
01:55business community, as crime has been a major concern in the constituency for
01:59the past few years.
