The UNC would have attracted a number of votes that reside beyond its traditional base.
00:10
To put it very bluntly, a number of Afro-Trinidadians, Afro-descended Trinidadians,
00:18
voted for the UNC in larger numbers, in unprecedentedly larger numbers than before.
00:26
He says if Mrs. Passat-Bissassar nurtures that support, it can change the face of local politics.
00:33
Further, he predicts that the Kamala-Passat-Bissassar-led administration is poised to last,
00:39
and he admits there will be tension, but he believes they will work it out.
00:44
However, with regard to the PNM, he says, the failure of Dr. Keith Rowley to follow the party's constitution
00:50
in electing his successor led to their demise at the polls.
00:55
Miraj adds that Dr. Rowley imposed his choice on the party.
01:00
People stayed away. In addition to that, people also turned away from the people's national movement.
01:10
In addition, of course, to the fact that they had a disastrous 10 years as a government.
01:17
He tells us MP for Arima and now opposition leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson has her work cut out for her moving ahead.
01:26
She's going to be facing a strong government, a part, a UNC that is unified, a UNC that is diverse,
01:37
a UNC that has significant talent and significant numbers as well.
01:43
It is going to be a very steep challenge for her, but I am sure she is capable of coming through with it.
