Newly sworn in Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar is praised by Political Commentator Ralph Maraj.

He says the Persad Bissessar led UNC is now in a strong position, as it was able to mobilize a new population of supporters.

00:00The UNC would have attracted a number of votes that reside beyond its traditional base.
00:10To put it very bluntly, a number of Afro-Trinidadians, Afro-descended Trinidadians,
00:18voted for the UNC in larger numbers, in unprecedentedly larger numbers than before.
00:26He says if Mrs. Passat-Bissassar nurtures that support, it can change the face of local politics.
00:33Further, he predicts that the Kamala-Passat-Bissassar-led administration is poised to last,
00:39and he admits there will be tension, but he believes they will work it out.
00:44However, with regard to the PNM, he says, the failure of Dr. Keith Rowley to follow the party's constitution
00:50in electing his successor led to their demise at the polls.
00:55Miraj adds that Dr. Rowley imposed his choice on the party.

01:43It is going to be a very steep challenge for her, but I am sure she is capable of coming through with it.
