00:00Dr. Mishnu Raghunath, who is also the chairman of the Council for Responsible Political Behaviour, says people are curious about who will fill the 20 vacant senator positions. According to him, people want to see their government up and running.
00:16I have no problem with that, for that delay. I'd be concerned about who is the senators and who is the president of the Senate and who is the speaker of the House and so on. Those are issues which I think people have a reasonable cause to be asked in the question, why are we not here and who are they?
00:36He notes that while there are national issues to be addressed, there are also internal party matters and negotiations to be settled as well, noting that persons within the party will be making their own demands.
00:50The government also has to deal with demands coming from its own rank and five, its own party. And to that extent, there's a lot of bobbling and weaving and negotiating and backdoor dealing as to who should get what position.
01:08So, for instance, even up till yesterday, there was a report in one of the media that Prakash Ramada is still waiting to be called.
01:16He cautioned, though, that not everyone will get what they want, predicting that there will be some fallout as a result.
01:25As it relates to the health of Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissasa, Dr. Rauganath believes she's doing just fine.
01:33I think once people keep seeing her fairly regularly, we know that she's OK.
01:38I still, the fear that, you know, how long she will remain healthy, well, that is something that, I mean, nobody knows exactly.
01:47I mean, healthy people drop down one day or the other. So we really have to wait and see how she goes.
01:55He notes, though, that that brings the issue of succession to the fore within the United National Congress, suggesting that they may need to do some succession planning.
