00:06Carrying a petition to UNC Mayor of the Separia Boru Corporation, Dudnat Meru,
00:13UNC supporters on Wednesday morning called for the resignation of UNC Alderman Victor Roberts.
00:19Roberts recently attended a PNM event, publicly declaring his support for the opposition,
00:26to which he says he has applied for membership.
00:29But despite crossing the floor and having resigned as a member of the UNC in mid-2025,
00:36he remains a sitting UNC Alderman.
00:39For Victor Roberts, for him to be removed this morning,
00:43because he would have crossed the floor two weeks ago stating that he is now an active member of the
00:48PNM
00:49and we want him to be removed right now as Alderman of the Corporation.
00:53The group of UNC supporters hand-delivered a petition to the Mayor,
00:58calling for immediate action to have Roberts removed.
01:01Mayor Meru says while he plans to pass it along to the Prime Minister's party leader,
01:07he admits there is no law which forces an Alderman's removal in the event of a party change.
01:14He has been in the PNM before. He left the PNM. He went on his own. He went independent in
01:192016.
01:20He come to the UNC. He's gone back to the PNM. He's a frog-hopper politician.
01:25That's what he is. He should do the honourable thing. He has no honour. He has no integrity.
01:30You can't sit on our council that you are posted as a UNC Alderman and tell me you take your
01:36chair and you're going on and you're hugging up the PNM Alderman and use PNM.
01:39It makes no sense. So for them to boast that they have Victor Roberts on his side, Victor Roberts bring
01:43nothing to the dance.
01:45His claim to fame, he dragged a coffin from here to Porto, Spain, and carried by a minister house at
01:49Christmas morning.
01:50I hope he has the same coffin because that is where his political future lies.
01:54When the protesters arrived at the corporation on Wednesday morning, Roberts was also present.
01:59Speaking to reporters, the PNM supporting UNC Alderman said he supported Rushton Parry in the UNC's last internal election and
02:10decided then where he stood with the party.

03:07And my reason for that is I am here to look after the interests of the people.
03:11So it matters not to me what the mayor say or feel.
03:15I am continuing to be the checks and balance in this corporation until such time when my time is up
03:21or the government dissolve and call fresh elections.

03:26Each corporation is allocated four aldermen, which are divided based on the number of votes received by each party through
03:35the system of proportional representation.
03:38The Separia Boru Corporation currently has two UNC and two PNM aldermen.
