As this country grapples with the crime situation the top cop in Tobago would like the peace that many enjoyed during the holy month of Ramadan to continue.
Assistant Commissioner Oswin Subero spoke on Monday during a simple ceremony at the Lowlands Mosque in Tobago during Eid observances.
Elizabeth Williams was there and has this report.

00:00In my short stay here, I have seen what the community have been doing, especially for
00:05young men. In Trinidad and Tobago, we have an issue with young men and we appreciate
00:13every single group that takes time out to address the issues with young men and to actually
00:19face it as a reality.
00:21Assistant Commissioner of Police Oswin Subero, as he spoke at the Lowlands Mosque on Monday
00:26during Eid observances, he called for the peace that reigned during the month of Ramadan
00:32to continue on the island.
00:34We have recognized that during the period of Ramadan, that over the island, there was
00:42this sense of peace over the space. So we want to make every month a month of Ramadan
00:50in Tobago, that we dedicate our prayers to the nation of Tobago and peace.
00:57Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, Minority Leader Kelvin Morris and other officials brought
01:02greetings, speaking to religious unity in this country.
01:07What struck me as quite instructive is that on one occasion I sat with the Imam and I
01:18was there discussing Bible, he was there discussing the Quran, and we were comparing
01:25beliefs, comparing teachings, and it was happening all peacefully, without anger and with respect
01:34for each other's belief.
01:36Just yesterday we had the Shouter Baptist Spiritual Liberation Day. Today we are celebrating
01:43Eid and in the coming weeks we will also be celebrating Easter. This is a powerful reminder
01:52of the beautiful religious diversity that we cherish in Trinidad and Tobago and we should
01:58not take that for granted.
