With six weeks to go for the third installment for the 2024 Tobago Carnival, there is still no budget from the THA and according to stakeholders, Tobago remains a safe place despite an increase in murders.

This was the general sentiment echoed by stakeholders, following a media conference on the event on Tuesday at Shaw Park. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00Assistant Commissioner of Police Tobago Collis Hazel speaking at the October
00:05Carnival media conference said despite an uptick in murders serious crimes in
00:10Tobago remain down. So let me say to you and all the onlookers and those
00:16persons at this point in time who are still trying to make up their mind
00:20Tobago is safe. Tobago is a safe place. Yes we have had some challenges with
00:27our shootings and woundings which has resulted murders however our serious
00:35crimes the majority of our serious crimes are still down and therefore I
00:39want to give the public the assurances that we have been looking at some of the
00:45persons who are responsible for some of these
00:54offenses and a plan is being instituted. Meantime talks continue to be had with
01:02the Port Authority and Caribbean Airlines for additional flights for the
01:07air and seabridge. This from Assistant Secretary for Tourism Niall George.
01:12Conversations with the airline carriers have never stopped. We were able to get
01:19additional ceilings from the Port Authority as well as additional flights.
01:23Those are almost booked out as far as I know. Conversations continue to be had to
01:30have additional flights because I know this is a carnival meeting but outside
01:35of carnival we have been trying to get additional flights on the air bridge
01:38because people have been suffering on the airports for quite some time. As for
01:45the number of bands participating interim head of the Tobago October
01:49Carnival Association Dexter Sandy said there has been an increase in the
01:55registration of bands. Definitely we have seen an increase in the number of bands
02:01being registered to participate in the carnival activities. This is a trend in
02:06the right direction we are seeing in excess of 30 bands being registered for
02:13in excess of 10 for night mass and just over 21 for the contemporary mass and
02:21traditional mass which takes place on the Sunday. This October carnival would
02:25remain centered in Scarborough with a well-coordinated circuit according to
02:30newly minted CEO of the Tobago Festivals Commission Limited Kuhn Cowan Elizabeth
