00:0061-year-old Nicholas Mahabir, also known as Scotty, has been charged with the murder of
00:08Irving Mayora, who was shot and killed on Carnival Tuesday in St. James.
00:13According to a police media release, Mahabir was charged by the Homicide Bureau of Investigation,
00:19following advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard.
00:23Apart from a murder charge, Mahabir will also be charged with four counts of shooting with
00:28intent, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
00:33Mayora was in the vicinity of the St. James Market along the western main
00:37route on Carnival Tuesday last, with four other persons when loud explosions were heard.
00:42Mayora and the other victims were taken to the St. James Medical Centre,
00:46where Mayora succumbed to his injuries. Mahabir was held shortly after and taken into custody.
00:52Meanwhile, 20-year-old Akeem Simon of Bagatelle, Diego Martin, was charged with the murder of David
00:58Stanley Gregor that occurred on February 15 this year. Gregor was of Savannah Road in Diego Martin,
01:04was found with wounds about his body along Ariapeta Avenue. He was taken to hospital,
01:09where he later died. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Jumman Ali Sahadat appeared in court last week,
01:15charged with the murder of 9-year-old Aneelia Butler that occurred on February 15.
01:21The child was at home in Beetham Gardens on that date, with her family when the house started to
01:30burn. The rest of the family was able to evacuate. However, the little girl was unable to escape and
01:36her charred remains were found inside. A suspect was later arrested by the officers of the Homicide
01:42Bureau. In tonight's Crime Wrap, five were arrested.
