In three days, the three-year anniversary of the Paria Diving tragedy will be marked. A memorial motorcade will take mourners and supporters to three significant sites: the Couva South Constituency office, where memorial trees have been planted; Plaisance Park, where a memorial sign has been erected; and the Paria site in Pt. a Pierre. 00:00The three-year anniversary of the Paria diving tragedy is fast approaching and

00:05for the families of the fallen divers it is a painful reminder of the horrific

00:10events that unfolded. Philip Alexander, one of the first public figures to

00:15arrive on site, shared his experience.

00:18That shed, rain, sunshine, day, night, that shed, that's where they left the families.

00:24They didn't even accommodate the families in air-conditioned comforts.

00:28Christopher Boudram, the lone survivor, spoke about the lack of accountability

00:32and the lasting impact the tragedy has had on him.

00:35It may not be guaranteed, but I'm sure life would be better than living under the pain and blood of a distraught young.

00:44Following the tragedy, Vanessa Cussey, the wife of Rishi Nagasar, joined the UNC

00:50and was elected as councillor for Kufa, West Roystonia.

00:54She recounts how government officials avoided the families,

00:58but it was the opposition who showed compassion and solidarity.

01:02This was no political thing.

01:06They were all caring and concerned for the Paria rescue plan, nothing else.

01:11They all stand at our side till this day.

01:14Interim political leader of the Congress of the People,

01:17who represented relatives of Faisal Kurban and Yusuf Henry,

01:21says the incident played a significant role in his return to politics.

01:25When we do file, if they think the five billion I asked for is unreasonable vacancy,

01:32it is going to be a new form of matter.

01:38We're not just the widow, but the children.

01:42Not just the widow, but each and every one of your children, sir, brother.

01:49And it will include not just the physical loss.

01:54It will include not just the loss of learnings,

01:57but the most important thing to me is the emotional destruction of families and the entire nation.

02:03Despite the recommendations of the Paria Commission of Inquiry,

02:06three years later, the families of Faisal Kurban, Kazim Ali Jr., Yusuf Henry, and Rishi Nagasa,

02:13along with the lone survivor, Christopher Boodram, have yet to receive any compensation.
