00:00A no-nonsense person who always did things the right way is how friends and relatives
00:07of murdered woman Municipal Police Corporal Anuska Eversley eulogized her on Monday afternoon.
00:14If you knew Nuski, you knew she was the life of the party.
00:22There was always laughter around her, always a story, always a moment.
00:32But at the same time, she was a no-nonsense person.
00:37She believed in doing what needed to be done and doing it right.
00:42Her funeral service on Monday at the Faith Centre Church in San Fernando was held just
00:48hours after three men, including a colleague, appeared in court charged with her murder.
00:55They also faced charges for robbery with violence and the possession of 123 firearms
01:02and 4,395 rounds of ammunition stolen from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station
01:10the day Corporal Eversley was beaten and strangled to death while on duty.
01:15We, the members of the Trina and Tobago Municipal Police Service, condemn this evil act which
01:22stands in stark contrast to the values of decency and respect for human life.
01:29Acting one police Corporal Anuska Eversley served with honour, lived with purpose and made the
01:37ultimate sacrifice in the execution of her duty.
01:41A presentation was then made to the family by recently appointed head of the Municipal Police
01:47Service, ACP Wayne Meister.
01:50Meister replaced former head of the Municipal Force, ACP Sagram Singh, who was sent on administrative
01:57leave last week.
01:58He was also in attendance at the funeral, but took a back seat.
02:02Meanwhile, the mayor of San Fernando was critical of the state of the country and how different
02:08life is today compared to three or four decades ago.
02:12We veered away from family values.
02:15We can't even have our back door open anymore.
02:19You can't even trust your own co-worker.
02:22I vow from this day going forward to assist the police in every regard for this matter to
02:34come to an amicable end.
02:36The officiating bishop said, while Corporal Eversley's murder rocked the nation, it's a
02:43call to choose light over darkness.
02:45I believe that now is the time we should look to peace.
02:52Because there are no reason why we should be hurting one another.
02:55There are no reason why we should be destroying one another.
02:59Instead of breaking one another down, now is the time to build one another.
03:06Instead of bringing down our brother and our sister, let us encourage them.
03:12The service was followed by a short street procession from the church to the JE Guide Funeral Home
03:19and Crematorium.
03:20It was led by close family, friends, executive members of the Municipal Police Service and
03:26some of her former batch mates.
03:28Rest in peace, Corporal Eversley.
