The Tobago House of Assembly has successfully secured emergency injunctive relief from the High Court of Justice in Tobago to protect the Buccoo Reef Marine Park and the Pigeon Point Heritage Park. With jet skis at this time not being allowed to operate at the Marine Park. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00This intervention follows recent tragic incident and ongoing concerns regarding unsafe and unlawful activity within protected marine zones.
00:09The THA says the injunction represents a necessary enforcement measure to protect human life, preserve fragile reef ecosystems, and maintain
00:20order within these nationally significant sites.
00:24In a prompt and coordinated response following the passage of the Tobago Marine Park Bill, the Division of Legal Affairs,
00:32under the leadership of Secretary-Counselor Adana Joseph Wallace, moved to secure urgent relief before the court.
00:40The team was led by Chrislyn Moore and Dominique Asim, with legal support from Kira Brassi and Desiree Valentine of
00:50the Division of Legal Affairs.
00:51The order granted today by Madam Justice Echelan-Pierre restrains individuals from operating jet skis within the protected areas.
01:01It also prohibits the offering of solicitation of jet skis services, as well as the launching, retrieval, or operation of
01:12such vessels until further order of the court.
01:15The injunction means that there is an immediate cessation of jet ski operations within Buku Reef and Pigeon Point.
01:24The matter is scheduled for hearing on 1st May, 2026.
