00:00Senior Counsel Anand Ramlogan's law firm, Freedom Law Chambers, represents the sole survivor in the Paria Pipeline tragedy, Christopher Boudram, and the family of Rishi Nagasa, one of the four divers who died in that tragedy in February of 2022 at a state-owned Paria Fuel Trading Limited facility.
00:21In a statement on Friday, Senior Counsel Anand Ramlogan said, quote,
00:51responded to a question regarding the announcement early last month by the then-Prime Minister, now-opposition PNM MP, Stuart Young, that the Cabinet at that time had agreed to payments of $1 million to each of the families of the divers who lost their lives, as well as to Mr. Boudram, in an ex-gratia manner with no admission of liability.
01:14Of course, promises never materialize, never deliver.
01:18The Prime Minister offered her suggestion of how to address any perception that lawyers involved in the matter may be perceived to be UNC lawyers.
01:28You may have to look at a judicial settlement of those matters, but we will help those families as much as we can.
01:36The further complication is, and I sound a bit hilarious, but for those who have passed away, or those who perished, who is the next, who is the family, who is the administrator, what do you call the administrator?
01:51Well, it's not just next to Quinn, the executor. The executor who holds the letters of administration.
01:56Senior Counsel Ramlogan described the judicial settlement proposal and, quote, excellent initiative because it will save precious judicial time and legal costs which the families can ill afford, end quote.
02:09Senior Counsel Ramlogan further said, quote, we therefore commend the Prime Minister, Kamala Pesad-Besessa, for demonstrating such legal acumen and wisdom, end quote.
