00:00Residents of Providence Tobago are calling for this bridge to be fixed in
00:05the shortest possible time. Some residents told the TV6 News they
00:09contacted the Division of Infrastructure for redress. Today they are still waiting.
00:15Terry Lee Grant-Bear told the TV6 News the bridge built several years ago under
00:21the former Hojoy Charles administration has not been repaired since. During a
00:26visit to the bridge we were shown the deterioration in the planks and this
00:31reporter almost fell as one section of the wooden planks gave way. The bridge is
00:38falling apart basically. We submitted petitions, we went to the relevant
00:44authority asking to get the bridge rectified and it seems like nobody's
00:48hearing us so this is our last resort basically. Approximately how many
00:52residents would be affected if something goes wrong with this bridge?
00:57Over 20 persons will be affected. Have you approached the Division of
01:02Infrastructure on this matter? Yes I went to works on many occasions and they
01:08always say they have no material and every time I go like every year or
01:12between twice for the year it's the same thing they keep repeating. You have no
01:16material but they want us to buy the material and they will send someone to
01:20fix it. I say well this is government bridge I say you're supposed to be
01:25responsible for the bridge and also it have a TNT pole that is falling on there
01:30for the past years and they said the fastest way going to fix it if it fall.
01:36Trucks transporting heavy equipment and even those with household appliances no
01:42longer venture across the unstable bridge. In addition the roadway is in a
01:47deplorable condition. As you can see that the bridge is very dilapidated and
01:53unsecure for any sort of heavy vehicle to pass on the bridge basically as it is
01:59right now a car could take a chance and cross the bridge and take a chance and
02:03walk on the bridge but for any sort of heavy equipment to transport material to
02:08do infrastructure upon the land it is very unsafe. Residents are hopeful
02:15relief comes sooner rather than later as several letters have been delivered to
02:20the Division of Infrastructure for several years without success.
