Northwest braces for surge in rain and snow

A new parade of storms on the way to the Pacific Northwest will primarily bring rain, which could lead to increased avalanche risks.

00:00And then there is the next storm.

00:01Really a stormy pattern that's going

00:03to continue through Tuesday.

00:04We have rounds of rain and of course some snow.

00:07But here's the thing about the snow.

00:09It's really going to be isolated

00:10to the highest elevation,

00:11so mostly above past level.

00:13That means we'll be getting rain at

00:15past level rather than the snow,

00:16and that means with this storm,

00:18especially Saturday into Sunday,

00:19the strongest storm of the bunch.

00:21We have avalanche risks into the

00:23mountain areas with the snow and

00:24then the rain on top of that.

00:26That is kind of the perfect

00:28conditions for avalanche risk.

00:29Something to keep in mind if that's

00:31where you're going to be this weekend.

00:33Others low lying areas.

00:34That's where we're looking at a

00:36flooding risk with this next storm,

00:37so different risks all possible

00:38to cause travel disruptions.

00:40But let's take a look at it on future

00:42radar kind of this parade of storms

00:44and how this plays out.

00:45We're stopping at Friday 10 AM 1st,

00:47and that's when the first storm

00:49or really the next storm.

00:50You've already started the pattern, right?

00:52Starts to move into the Pacific Northwest.

00:54We continue as it moves its way inland.

00:56Some more snow mixing in,

00:57but still a lot of rain.

00:59Next storm right behind it Saturday afternoon.

01:00We have some pockets of some heavier

01:02rainfall that will move in with this,

01:04and you can see much more moisture

01:06associated with this storm.

01:07A lot more rainfall and some snow as well.

01:10This is Sunday overnight and then

01:11that will continue to move inland.

01:13As we look further to the South,

01:15this stormy pattern is bringing

01:17another round of Santa Ana winds.

01:18It's going to last through tomorrow.

01:20The good news with this because

01:22of the recent rainfall,

01:23we're not looking at a very elevated fire risk,

01:25but still 30 to 50% chance of

01:27fire risk, but still 30 to 50 mph.

01:29Wind gusts possible here.

01:30Something to keep in mind.

01:32Temperature wise,

01:32we're in the 40s and 50s,

01:34depending on where you are right

01:35in the ballpark of where we should

01:37be this time of year when we talk

01:39about historical averages.
