Storm brings snow and ice to the mid-Atlantic

AccuWeather Network Chief Meteorologist Bernie Rayno breaks down the timing on the latest round of snow and ice heading into Wednesday night.

00:00We've had about an inch in

00:01Charleston so far here.

00:03I want to show you some of the snowfall

00:05totals across Tennessee, Kentucky,

00:07and West Virginia so far.

00:08It hasn't been a lot of snow,

00:10but it's been enough.

00:12Owensboro,

00:12Kentucky and at four inches.

00:14Bowling Green 3.3 Clarksville,

00:15Tennessee in at three and then

00:17in Knoxville and Charleston.

00:18We've had about an inch of snow so far here.

00:21You can see that snow extending all

00:23the way up toward Indianapolis and

00:25Columbus where the snow is relatively light.

00:27But you can see that area moving

00:29pretty quickly to the east.

00:31Now it looks like it's

00:32snowing in Washington DC.

00:33It's just there's so much

00:35dry air in Washington DC.

00:36I think eventually going to get

00:38period of snow and flurries.

00:40This afternoon is not going to

00:41amount to a whole lot here.

00:43The area to watch is going to be

00:45across southern parts of Virginia,

00:47snowing along Interstate 81 in

00:48southern parts of Virginia right now,

00:50and that's going to be heading

00:51east as we go through today.

00:53There we go.

00:54Note the dark blue shading where around

00:56Virginia Beach, Northern North Carolina.

00:57We're going to get four or five

00:59inches of snow as we go through today.

01:01Probably an inch or two,

01:02one to three once you get toward

01:04Fredericksburg and then you might

01:06sneak out and eat in Washington DC.

01:08It's close call.

01:09If you can overcome that dry air,

01:11what snowfalls will will accumulate

01:12quickly because of how cold it is.

01:14Watch that move to the east.

01:16There it is.

01:17You start getting the snow perhaps

01:19up toward Wildwood Atlantic City.

01:20A period of snow and then watch

01:23the upper lows are storm leaves.

01:25Tonight watch that upper lows

01:27start to produce the snow.

01:28Indianapolis Columbus is a heavy no,

01:30but there could be a few bursts of

01:32snow heading toward Pittsburgh and

01:34even Washington DC tomorrow morning.

01:36As the storm leaves,

01:37then we'll continue to track that

01:39upper low as we head toward tomorrow noon.

01:41There it is.

01:42Storm is offshore.

01:43It kind of grazes the Cape in the islands.

01:46And again,

01:47I could see a few snow showers in

01:49New York City tomorrow afternoon.

01:51We've trended everything off to the South.

01:53That dryer is going to win out

01:56You're not going to get much on the

01:57back side of that with the upper law.

01:59I was concerned about that.

02:01I don't think that concern is much,

02:02at least through tonight.

02:04Will watch that upper low as we

02:05head toward tomorrow.

02:06Some accumulations here.

02:07Knoxville,

02:07you've already had the inch.

02:09You're about done here.

02:10Greensboro toward Raleigh.

02:112 to 4 inches of snow.

02:13Norfolk, Virginia,

02:13Virginia Beach, 6 to 10 inches,

02:154 to 8 inches in Richmond.

02:17And then you have this.

02:18The ice that's going to be extensive

02:20from Fayetteville toward Greenville,

02:22where we're going to have some

02:25major problems on roadways and a

02:26buildup of ice on tree on trees and

02:29power lines and that can cause some

02:31power outages.
