Morvant Laventille Secondary School has gotten a much needed upgrade to enhance the teaching learning experience.

It comes under the 'Adopt A School Programme', where close to half of a million dollars was expended to complete an Improvement Project for the school.

Alicia Boucher has the highlights from the ceremony held to mark the achievement.

00:00106 fans in total, one installed in every classroom, as well as the labs and multi-purpose
00:06hall, 20 computers for the library and adult learning center, Wi-Fi in the library, and
00:12an air-conditioned unit in the principal's office.
00:15These upgrades are what about 550 students and teaching staff at Imova Laventille Secondary
00:20School are the beneficiaries of, under the now-completed School Improvement Project.
00:26Lead and advocate for the project, former banking executive Robert Lee Hunt, describes
00:30the process as one of high collaboration, with stakeholders and sponsors donating money,
00:36materials, and their expertise to get the job done.
00:39Lee Hunt says the two main corporate sponsors, the Inter-American Development Bank and Antimacal,
00:45did not hesitate to come on board.
00:47Then, they were the quiet heroes.
00:51They were the quiet heroes of over 40 individuals and corporations, some of whom preferred to
00:57stay anonymous, who selflessly gave what they could.
01:03We took them all, and this crowdfunding together, which allowed us to be able to reach the disposition
01:10of raising close to $500,000 to ensure that this project was completed.
01:18A bill of quantities detailing how the money was spent was provided to the media.
01:22Lee Hunt tells the students that the new equipment is but a tool to facilitate their dreams,
01:27innovations, and their potential.
01:30So let us continue this work.
01:32Let us build, keep striving, and keep believing.
01:38Because when we lift up our schools, we lift up our children.
01:43And when we lift up our children, we lift up our nation.
01:47Principal of the school, Colin Telesford, is grateful to those who came together to
01:52see the project through, marking a promise kept.
01:55Over the years, many promises were made to address the challenges faced by our school,
02:03but they remained unfulfilled.
02:05Apart from a generous act, the initiative is being viewed by School Supervisor III at
02:10the Ministry of Education, Lawrence Hunt, as a collective commitment to education, empowerment,
02:16and transformation for a brighter future.
02:19The fruits that will be born from this seed that is planted here today may be seen 20
02:26years down the road, but it will be seen.
02:31According to Lee Hunt, there is a shortfall in government funding for schools across the
02:35board, and he refers to the Adopt-a-School program as important.
02:40Lee Hunt is calling for the work to continue, noting that around Carnival, some all-inclusive
02:45FETs are organized by the alumni of prestiged schools, and can generate large sums of money
02:50which go towards those schools.
02:53But who are the alumni of Mover, Laventille, and their ability to also donate?
03:00And where is the fundraiser for Mover, Laventille to raise a million dollars to help?
03:06My simple request is, do not forget schools like Mover, Laventille.
03:11Mover, Laventille schools also need the types of services, they need the type of facilities.
