The Opposition Leader is facing condemnation from an arm of the PNM, the NTA and one Cabinet member for her harsh criticisms of the previous administration in the U.S.

However, the Opposition Leader has received the support of the PEP, as she is doubling down on her declaration that the previous U.S. administration was an absolute disaster".

00:04Prasad's criticisms of the administration led by now former US
00:09President Joe Biden as she congratulated Donald Trump as he became the 47th
00:15President of the United States on Monday. In a statement on Tuesday the PNM's
00:20Women's League said the opposition leader denigrated the previous
00:24Democratic government of the United States of America and declared quote
00:28this kind of rhetoric is reckless and damaging not only to our relationship
00:33with a key ally like the US but also to Trinidad and Tobago's standing on the
00:38world stage end quote. The leader of the NTA former Police Commissioner Guy
00:43Griffith also used a statement on Tuesday saying the tone and content of
00:47Mrs. Prasad Becerra's statement which harshly criticized the outgoing Biden
00:52administration represent what Mr. Griffith called a failure of sound
00:56diplomatic judgment. Mr. Griffith said quote a particular note was the mention
01:01of the woke agenda in the release while a more modern interpretation of the term
01:05includes divisive elements such as biological men competing in women's
01:10sports. The term originally emerged from African-American vernacular English to
01:15describe heightened awareness of social and racial injustices given the
01:21realities of Trinidad and Tobago's racial ethnic and tribal divisions
01:25anything that could further fuel this divide must be avoided end quote. Foreign
01:30and Caricom Affairs Minister Dr. Amy Brown issued a statement on the social
01:34media platform X on Monday however it began to get national attention on
01:39Tuesday. The foreign minister said on Monday quote the leader of the
01:42opposition's media release of today focused on politics in the USA in her
01:47most inappropriate, injudicious, inept, imprudent, phoning, tactless, reckless,
01:53obscure, intemperate, and ill-advised utterance to date end quote. On Tuesday
02:00PEP political leader Philip Alexander was critical of Minister Brown's
02:04description of the opposition leaders statement. Mr. Alexander said quote
02:09Kamala Prasad Becerra as the leader of the largest cross-section of Trinidadians
02:13understood the assignment and demonstrated a willingness to speak
02:17truth in the face of all those absurdities and atrocities even before
02:22Trump won so to infer that she was attempting to score points is Griffith
02:27attempting to judge her by his own weak and low standards end quote. Meanwhile
02:32opposition leader Prasad Becerra has doubled down on her comments. In a
02:37statement on Tuesday the opposition leader said she firmly stands by her
02:41comments regarding the Joe Biden administration and maintained that she
02:44believed it was an absolute disaster. Pointing out that the PNM and other
02:49critics have come out supporting the Biden administration she called on them
02:53to tell Trinidad and Tobago if they support any of the policies of the Biden
02:57administration she is highly critical of. Mrs. Prasad Becerra said her record will
03:03show that since 2020 she has quote been advocating against this woke far-left
03:09extreme insanity. It's time for the world to move on from the insanity and
03:14destructive divisive policies of the Joe Biden Democrats administration end
03:19quote. In November of last year Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley wrote a letter
03:24to then President-elect Trump and said he has every confidence that under Mr.
03:28Trump's stewardship the relationship with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
03:32and the wider Caribbean community will continue to prosper.
