The Prime Minister is this evening maintaining that this country continues to have a good relationship with Venezuela.
This, despite her recent statements that her Government supports the deployment of US military assets near the waters of Venezuela

00:00In light of the government's position in support of the U.S. deployment of Navy vessels in the waters near Venezuela
00:06and Prime Minister Kamala Pesad-Besessa's declaration that the government stands in full support of Guyana
00:12against any act of aggression by Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro,
00:16TV6 News has sent a question to the Prime Minister to find out if this definitively brings an end to any possibility
00:22of the future supply of natural gas from Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago.
00:26Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa told TV6 News,
00:28We have good relations with the Venezuelan people.
00:32As Minister Soba Zanayi said previously, that good relationship will continue unless the Venezuelan government chooses to invade Guyana.
00:41They have not done that and therefore we continue to have peaceful and respectful relations.
00:47TV6 News also sought an update from the Prime Minister with regard to the government's efforts to secure the supply of natural gas
00:53from CARICOM neighbors including Guyana.
00:55Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa said that the Minister of Energy is following up on the Grenadian gas projects.
01:01Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa told TV6 News that Guyana has already said that they have use for their gas.
01:08As she noted, her administration is working on simplifying and deregulating the approval process to speed up exploration and production.
01:15The Prime Minister also said the government is looking at speeding up the development of small onshore and shallow water areas
01:22by increasing coordination and cooperation between the state-owned NGC and Heritage Petroleum.
01:28TV6 News also sent a question to Energy Minister Dr. Rudal Munilal
01:32following the Energy Ministry's announcement of his recent meeting with a delegation led by Grenada's Prime Minister,
01:37Decon Mitchell, about exploring opportunities for collaboration within the oil and gas sector.
01:43Our talks with Grenada had to do with the mandate of the Prime Minister, Kamala Pesad-Besessa.
01:50On the day we were sworn in as ministers, Mrs. Pesad-Besessa mandated the Minister of Energy to meet and engage with the government of Grenada
02:00on cooperation and collaboration on energy matters.
02:04So the meetings had to do with that mandate in fulfillment of that directive from the Honorable Prime Minister.
02:10The Energy Minister also responded to our question about the possibility of the future supply of natural gas from Venezuela.
02:16And of course we have said before our vision is to emerge as the energy hub of the Caribbean
02:22and conduct business with Guyana, Suriname and Grenada
02:26and of course pursue ongoing negotiations and development cooperation with the government of Venezuela
02:35notwithstanding the circumstances and the geopolitical issues of the day.
02:40The Energy Minister said his meetings in Grenada occurred on August 23rd and August 24th.
