Transcript
00:00Was your client one of two suspects that emerged from bushes in Kambi, according to police?
00:08No. At the time the police alleged this robbery occurred, my client was in Signal Hill.
00:16Attorney-at-law and former Assistant Commissioner of Police, William Nurse, in an interview with TV6 News.
00:23Mr. Nurse told TV6 News the truth must be told in the matter, as his client, a member of the Defence Force, was kept in police custody from Saturday afternoon into Sunday night.
00:35I just want to clear the air. I'm not speaking for the Defence Force, but I'm speaking for my client whom the police arrested and had kept in custody from, I think, Saturday night.
00:48I attended at the Chauvin Road police station with my client. We allowed him to be interviewed, and at the conclusion of that interview, I found that there was absolutely no evidence to have linked my client to the alleged robbery.
01:11Attorney William Nurse said there was not enough evidence to link his client to the crime.
01:17Neither had there been any evidence upon which the police can satisfy reasonable grounds of suspicion in relation to my client and in relation to that alleged robbery.
01:32So my client was released from police custody last night, and I conveyed him to his army camp and handed him over to his commanding officer.
01:45Mr. Nurse is cautioning police officers to do better.
01:49So it meant, therefore, because somebody was wearing camouflage and an army boots, the police deduced that it must have been a member of the Defence Force.
02:01And in that way, by coming to that conclusion, it meant that you could have taken up any member of the Defence Force for that purpose.
02:09So I just want to urge the police to be a little more careful when they are conducting their investigation.
02:18Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
