00:00Honorable members, when this house was adjourned on December 9th 2024, I would
00:08never have imagined having to re-enter this chamber and be confronted by the
00:14empty desk that the late Mrs. Lisa Morris Julian, Member of Parliament for
00:21Davidi O'Meara, once occupied. Speaker of the House, Bridget Anisette George, as she
00:26joined the government and the opposition in the House of Representatives as they
00:30paid tribute to the late former minister, Morris Julian, who along with two of her
00:35children died tragically in a fire at her home in December. Coming from a
00:40family deeply rooted in service, she followed in the footsteps of her
00:45grandfather and served as the mayor of the borough of Arima for over seven
00:51years before transitioning to her role as a parliamentary representative. Lisa
00:58Morris Julian gave of herself selflessly, sharing both her time and her
01:03expertise with a spirit of willingness, care and love. Chief Whip David Lee paid
01:09tribute to Mrs. Morris Julian on behalf of the opposition. The Chief Whip
01:13acknowledged her commitment to public service and more importantly to her
01:18family. It is clear that as a mother and as a wife, the late Lisa Morris Julian
01:23balanced public life but ensured that she did all to preserve the love of her
01:29family. She did all to put her family first. To the very end she upheld her
01:34duty, protecting her family to the very end. She demonstrated that the love of a
01:41mother knows no bounds and cannot be broken.
01:44Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley spoke of former Minister Morris Julian's dedication to public
01:49service, her children and the nation's children and declared she stood on
01:54principle. She was a gift to this Parliament. She was a gift to this
01:59nation. She was a gift to the community of Arima and she was a gift to her
02:05family. But Madam Speaker, these gifts have an end date and Lisa's end date came
02:18much too soon for the rest of us. The Speaker then led the House of
02:24Representatives in a moment of silence for the late former Councillor, Mayor, MP
02:29and Minister Lisa Morris Julian. Jule Brown, TV6 News.
