The first full-working session of the House of Representatives is set to take place on Friday, June 13th,
00:06
when the Children's Life Fund Amendment Bill 2025 will be piloted by Health Minister Dr. Lacroix Budo.
00:13
This is in keeping with a decision announced by Prime Minister Kamla Passat-Bissessor,
00:18
who gave advanced notice of the bill following the first meeting of her new Cabinet on May 8th at the Red House in Port of Spain.
00:26
Cabinet Note No. 1, 2025.
00:30
It's to allow for amendments to be made to the Children's Life Fund statute.
00:37
And that was, there were many positive elements to that piece of legislation from 2010,
00:44
but a review has revealed there are certain areas which require reform to ensure that fund is better utilized
00:54
to help children suffering from life-limiting medical illnesses.
00:59
and not just for helping children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
01:05
And on May 26th, in response to a question from TV6 News about another key decision by the Cabinet,
01:11
Prime Minister Passat-Bissessor said a bill required for the repeal of the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority
01:16
will be, quote, among the first group of bills to be laid in Parliament, end quote.
01:22
The Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority repeal Bill 2025 has been included in the order paper
01:27
for Friday's sitting of the House of Representatives.
01:31
According to the Parliament's website, Finance Minister Devine-Jonath-Tanku will introduce the bill
01:36
and have it debated later in the proceedings.
01:39
The Prime Minister indicated the government's objectives for that bill following the first meeting of her new Cabinet.
01:46
So we took the decision that that TTRA Act be repealed
01:51
and the Honourable Prime Minister be authorized to address all financial and staffing obligations
01:58
attendant on the authority, that authority, to bring its operations to a close.
02:04
Further, in keeping with government's stated policy, this government's policy,
02:10
government will focus on resources, on strengthening the BIR,
02:16
instead of spending to establish this failure of a TTRA.
02:22
The Prime Minister said her administration is proposing an increase
02:25
in the number of Board of Inland Revenue Commissioners
02:27
and is also giving consideration to including non-public officers as commissioners.
02:32
It is left to be seen whether the new opposition, led by Penelope Beckels,
02:37
in addition to making their positions clear on those matters,
02:40
will pose an urgent question or move a motion on the adjournment
02:44
to deal with the Prime Minister's warning to Venezuela
02:46
that where its internal security issues are concerned, Trinidad and Tobago is off-limits.
02:52
A segment for Prime Minister's questions is also on the order paper for Friday.
