Two priority bills of the new Government are on the Order Paper for Friday's meeting.

00:00The first full-working session of the House of Representatives is set to take place on Friday, June 13th,
00:06when the Children's Life Fund Amendment Bill 2025 will be piloted by Health Minister Dr. Lacroix Budo.
00:13This is in keeping with a decision announced by Prime Minister Kamla Passat-Bissessor,
00:18who gave advanced notice of the bill following the first meeting of her new Cabinet on May 8th at the Red House in Port of Spain.

00:30It's to allow for amendments to be made to the Children's Life Fund statute.
00:37And that was, there were many positive elements to that piece of legislation from 2010,
00:44but a review has revealed there are certain areas which require reform to ensure that fund is better utilized
00:54to help children suffering from life-limiting medical illnesses.
00:59and not just for helping children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
01:05And on May 26th, in response to a question from TV6 News about another key decision by the Cabinet,
01:11Prime Minister Passat-Bissessor said a bill required for the repeal of the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority
01:16will be, quote, among the first group of bills to be laid in Parliament, end quote.
01:22The Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority repeal Bill 2025 has been included in the order paper
01:27for Friday's sitting of the House of Representatives.
01:31According to the Parliament's website, Finance Minister Devine-Jonath-Tanku will introduce the bill
01:36and have it debated later in the proceedings.
01:39The Prime Minister indicated the government's objectives for that bill following the first meeting of her new Cabinet.
01:46So we took the decision that that TTRA Act be repealed
01:51and the Honourable Prime Minister be authorized to address all financial and staffing obligations
01:58attendant on the authority, that authority, to bring its operations to a close.
02:04Further, in keeping with government's stated policy, this government's policy,
02:10government will focus on resources, on strengthening the BIR,
02:16instead of spending to establish this failure of a TTRA.
02:22The Prime Minister said her administration is proposing an increase
02:25in the number of Board of Inland Revenue Commissioners
02:27and is also giving consideration to including non-public officers as commissioners.
02:32It is left to be seen whether the new opposition, led by Penelope Beckels,
02:37in addition to making their positions clear on those matters,
02:40will pose an urgent question or move a motion on the adjournment
02:44to deal with the Prime Minister's warning to Venezuela
02:46that where its internal security issues are concerned, Trinidad and Tobago is off-limits.
02:52A segment for Prime Minister's questions is also on the order paper for Friday.
