Team manager Merissa Aguilleira says the West Indies are capable of winning the ICC Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup which takes place later this month in Malaysia.

The team is already in that country and Aguilleira says the girls must keep the faith.

She was speaking with TV6 via phone.

00:00The young ladies in Maroon are in Malaysia as they get ready for the
00:03Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup in that country. The players have had a couple
00:07practice sessions so far and team manager Marissa Aguilera is satisfied
00:12with the work put in. I think preparation is shaping up pretty well. We had a
00:17series against the USA towards the UK and we also had a couple of camps which
00:25I think you know was really useful. The head coach Mr. Robert Samuel has been
00:30doing an extremely good job with the players together with the rest of the
00:35coaching staff and I think our main focus is to really get them to
00:40understand why they are here and who they are representing and to also to
00:47make themselves proud and to have fun. Aguilera knows about the big stage
00:51having been a player with a World Cup winning West Indies side in 2016. As such
00:56she has simple words of advice to the team going out there to represent the
01:00Caribbean in Malaysia. What I would tell the players heading into this World Cup
01:04is to know that God has created you for a time like this. You are an amazing
01:09person. You have done extremely well. We are supporting you. Continue to trust
01:15your strength and your ability. Continue to believe in yourself and everything
01:21that was taught. You put it into practice. Enjoy yourself. Have fun and
01:26continue to be bold and to be strong and know that the Lord our God is with you.
01:32So the people of the Caribbean I know that they are cheering you all on so
01:37just continue to represent and represent well. This is the second edition of the
01:42tournament with the first one not going the way the Windies wanted. However
01:46Aguilera is optimistic the team can shine saying the key word is belief. I
01:50think cricket is a really funny game and anything could happen on a given day
01:56based on what has transpired in the last World Cup. I know a lot of people would
02:02not be looking forward for us to progress but I have faith in my girls. I
02:07think they have been doing extremely well. The only thing I really think
02:11that they just need to have faith in themselves. We have never been short of
02:15ability and talent within the West Indies team but it's just about giving
02:19that passion and enjoying your cricket and playing to the best of your ability
02:24and I think all will be well. So I'll be looking forward to seeing what they do
02:28and we will be cheering them on and I'm praying and hoping that also the people
02:33of the Caribbean will be cheering them on as well. The tournament starts in
02:36under two weeks with the West Indies taking on defending champions India in
