00:00PowerGen were rewarded for their efforts with two titles in this year's TNT Women's Cricket Association Premiership Tournaments.
00:07They retained the 50 over crown and added the T20 trophy to their cabinet.
00:12Rain prevented the T20 final between PowerGen and Yui from being played at the National Cricket Centre on Sunday.
00:18But skipper of the South Trinidad based side Brittany Cooper is still proud that her team achieved the double.
00:24We are really happy to be double champions this year. Last year we lost the T20 part of the tournament because of rain to Cardiac.
00:33So we are happy to be successful and defend our 50 over and attain the T20 title.
00:39The top two teams from the group of seven face each other for the trophy.
00:43But the abandonment of the final due terrain resulted in PowerGen being awarded the title for topping the group stage where they lost one match.
00:51Last year we were in the same position against Cardiac's Achievers not being able to play the finals of the tournament.
00:58But we really wanted to be out there and go and play against Yui. Yui beat us in the lead stage of the tournament and we wanted to get back at them.
01:07But you know, we can't control the weather but we are happy for winning the title.
01:12Success doesn't happen without proper planning.
01:15According to Cooper, the team's think tank had to come up with different strategies in order to accomplish the double.
01:21We were really tactical as a team.
01:23A lot of our games, our prep talk before games, we focused on the bonus points, the things we wanted to achieve.
01:31It wasn't just about, you know, golding and just winning the game.
01:34There were bonus points for batting and bowling.
01:37So we set our success about achieving those bonus points.
01:43Cooper says the two titles will boost the team heading into the 2026 season.
01:48But she is warning her players not to become complacent.
01:51We are very motivated because now everyone is looking to come and take our title.
01:57You know, a lot of teams are going to be coming at us and we are very motivated.
02:01It's going to make us up our game.
02:04We know that, you know, we cannot just relax and say we are defending champions.
02:08We have to step our game up and keep developing as a team.
02:12Due to inclement weather, the T20 final was pushed back from May 25th to June 1st,
02:17which in the end made no difference.
