Following our focus on the men's national team, it's the turn of the ladies.

That's because Trinidad and Tobago's women are also making preparations for next month's Caribbean Championships in Jamaica.

Female team coach Sheraz Rasool is optimistic the ladies can shine and retain their title.

He was speaking with TV6 during a training session at Kosmos Club in Port of Spain.

00:00Trinidad and Tobago's men's and women's teams will be going to Jamaica in the
00:03third week of July for the Caribbean Cup. Practice sessions are in progress for
00:07the prestigious tournament which will see other countries also participating.
00:11TNT women's coach Shiraz Rasool says his players are making progress with their
00:16preparations and just before the tournament starts they should be fully
00:19ready. Yeah we're going to defend our championship. We are defending champions
00:24for the Caribbean. We're going and try and defend that. We know well Jamaica is
00:30home, home grown so that might be our biggest competition. Having said that
00:35Rasool believes TNT also have to be wary of Team Florida. Other than that he says
00:41his team comprises many top names who can accomplish the mission for the Twin
00:45Island country. We have one of the best women in the Caribbean right now who have
00:50been traveling and playing outside, Karen, Karen Ramcharan. We have an experienced
00:59player and we have new players, Charmaine Harrington. She has been on several
01:05tours so that is experienced. We have Kimberly. She has been on tours already.
01:14She has a lot of improvement and she's number two right now with the national team.
01:19Rosemary Duff who is the manager for all the teams also has high expectations
01:24from Trinidad and Tobago in the tournament which runs from July 19th to
01:28the 27th in reggae country. I think we have a very strong chance. We have an
01:32excellent team and I think we have a very good chance of bringing back the
01:36trophy with us. So we also won the men's doubles and the trio in the last
01:41tournament so those titles we're also defending. Despite the fact that darts is
01:46not popular like cricket and football, Duff is pleased that the sport is
01:49growing in Trinidad and Tobago.
