00:00Information of a bomb threat is what is said to have led to officers at the
00:04Besson Street Police Station blocking off the western entrance to Besson
00:08Street. However when we arrived here we did not observe any officers mustered
00:12outside and in fact we have observed a few members of the public within the
00:17confines of the station. What we can confirm however is that the man known as
00:21Calvin Lee aka Tyson was released from police custody over the weekend. Now he
00:26would have been arrested just a few days after the very brazen attack on his life
00:31outside this very police station. It appeared to be business as usual at the
00:38Besson Street Police Station this morning despite reports of officers
00:42having received an alleged bomb threat. A release from the GTPS around midday
00:47confirmed that while there had been information suggesting that there was a
00:50bomb threat at the Besson Street Police Station there were no reports or
00:54evidence supporting such a threat. However the western entrance to Besson
00:59Street was barricaded earlier today as a precautionary measure much to the
01:03chagrin of residents and motorists.
01:24TV6 News spoke with a police officer at the location who said the
01:33measure was temporary and that the police was still awaiting approval from
01:37the Transport Commissioner to have Piccadilly Street converted to allow
01:41two-way traffic. He also told this reporter that the action was taken due
01:46to word of a bomb threat but one St. Paul Street resident believed that the
01:51action was due to ongoing gang activity in the area.
02:21The disgruntled resident is asking the police to have some consideration for the residents.
02:51According to a release from the TTPS the service remains vigilant and all police
02:57stations across the country continue to operate on heightened alert in
03:01alignment with security protocols during the ongoing state of emergency. The TTPS
03:06says public safety remains of highest priority and the police are actively
03:11monitoring and addressing potential threats. The police are urging members of
03:16the public to remain calm and refrain from sharing unverified information
03:21that may cause unnecessary panic.
