Our cameras visited Clifton Towers on St Paul Street, the reputed base of the Sixx gang... where all appeared quiet and calm; residents say the SoE means police raids and acts of intimidation are going to be non-stop.

00:00It's an area known as the base of the Six Gang, home to the man Calvin Lee, described
00:07by Acting Attorney General Stuart Young as one who is very well known to law enforcement
00:13officers.
00:14Lee, known on the ground as Tyson, Tayo and Six Dan days before, survived the fourth attempt
00:21at his life.
00:23Ironically, all of those attempts were made when he left police stations after checking
00:28in, as he's court-bound to do.
00:31While Lee survived and others scampered to safety, one man, Trevor Williams, described
00:36as Lee's associate, was shot dead.
00:40When we visited the area, residents said Lee remains in police custody after being taken
00:45in for questioning into what police say was a reprisal shooting in Pritzker Lands, which
00:52claimed the lives of five people who were ambushed while liming at a shop.
00:57On Monday morning, officers swooped down on Clifton Towers, breaking down doors and
01:02detaining a total of six people, according to residents.
01:07One resident, a mother of 10, says it's the third time police have broken down her door.
01:27While declining to go on camera, those speaking with us challenged authorities to put a state
01:42of emergency on police stations first, saying they are among the most corrupt bodies of
01:49the land.
01:50Residents described it as ironic that police never questioned, nor investigated the shooting
01:56at their doorstep at the Besson Street station, but held Tyson responsible for the quintuple
02:02murder.
02:03They questioned if police had a role to play in the attempt on the man's life, as the panel
02:09van in which five men with assault rifles hid was parked outside the Besson Street police
02:14station for close to five hours.
02:17They further claimed that the gunmen were picked up by a jeep outside Riverside Plaza,
02:23which houses the Homicide Division.
02:25The residents called for the release of security camera footage and also berated authorities
02:30for being one-sided in their raids and not venturing into rival areas, like Duncan Street,
02:37Sealots and Beetham Gardens, where the getaway vehicle was eventually found.
02:42The residents said they believe the SOE will now empower police to target them more, as
02:49they would have more authority to swoop down, detain and physically abuse them.
02:54In their own circle, some said they had heard the election, the general election would have
02:59been called in nine weeks, and this was a desperate attack by government to appease
03:04party loyalists in areas like theirs that government was doing something to abate crime.
03:10They tell us they do not view newly-nominated Lavender West candidate, Attorney-at-Law Kareem
03:16Marcell, as any peace broker.
03:19They suggest that because he's from Beetham Gardens, that he already has chosen a side.
03:24At the end of it all, residents say police are a main factor in crime, and if government
03:30was serious about abating the situation, they would not enact an SOE, but station police
03:36vehicles in hotspot areas 24-7, so criminals, guns and illicit items cannot move in and
03:44out at will.
