Leeds: Do any areas of the city need more housing?

Do you think Leeds needs more housing and where do you think new homes should be built? How do you feel about building on open spaces or fields to meet housing demands—should it be allowed, or is it going too far?

00:00In the city centre there seems to have been a lot of new apartment blocks, I think mainly aimed at students.

00:04I think we've got quite a lot there.

00:06I live in Chapel Allerton, which seems to be very suburban,

00:10and I'm not sure there's much space for any more housing there.

00:13But I think it depends. I think affordable housing is always a really good thing to have,

00:18and hopefully that can bring down some property prices over years.

00:21So no, I'm not against more housing being built.

00:23I'd like to see all brownfield sites developed first, wherever they may be.

00:29It's really hard now to get a council house.

00:33My niece has just had a baby and she's in a one-bedroom flat.

00:37She'll never get on the housing ladder.

00:39And it's the same everywhere, everywhere you go.

00:42Greenbelt land has been specifically designated as areas where you can't encroach on.

00:50I mean, I don't know how that will work out.

00:53I think there will be massive problems in trying to appropriate Greenbelt land.
